Job Overview

The Georgetown Climate Center (GCC) is seeking a JD Class of 2025 candidate to serve as a Fellow in the Center’s Mitigation Program for one year following graduation. The Mitigation Fellow will advance the Center’s work with federal, state, and local governments to establish and implement laws, policies, and practices supporting clean energy and climate mitigation. GCC serves as a resource to federal, state, and local policymakers on complex matters related to transportation, energy, and climate. GCC works with energy and environment officials across the country, as well as leading academic and policy experts, to reduce emissions in the electric power, transportation, and industrial and commercial sectors. The Mitigation Fellow will work with Climate Center staff to conduct legal and policy analysis related to this work. This will include analyzing relevant judicial rulings and regulatory text, tracking trends and developments of key importance for states (e.g., federal funding bills, electric vehicle charging technologies, changes in energy demands, and impacts of state and federal actions on underserved communities), writing white papers and policy summaries for state officials, and conducting other legal and policy analysis to support the development of equitable and effective policy development

Through our work with government officials, experts, and stakeholders, GCC provides opportunities for engagement with policymakers to discuss new challenges and best practices for achieving more ambitious and equitable climate policy solutions.
