As a Climate Scientist within our Community Development business line, you will have the opportunity to be a part of Stantec’s growing national resilience practice. Your experience supporting development of resilient and forward-looking programs, policies, and plans will compliment Stantec’s multi-disciplinary technical expertise and national resilience team to build communities that thrive in the wake of shocks or stresses. We help communities understand, communicate, and reduce their current and future hazard risks and vulnerabilities, including the impacts of climate change. In this role, with your strong understanding of climate science, climate adaptation and mitigation practices, and risk and vulnerability assessments, you will lead tasks, teams, and projects for adaptation planning, climate action plans, risk assessments, hazard mitigation planning, and related support to provide exceptional deliverables, achieve client satisfaction, and maintain profitability for the projects we execute. In addition, you will collaborate with our national resilience leaders. Hybrid and/or remote work options possible. Candidate must have the ability to report to a Stantec office location. **Your Key Responsibilities** + Serve as a climate science subject matter expert, performing meteorological and climate data analysis, including regional climate profiling guiding teams on the use of climate data and tools for assessing natural hazard risk. + Lead delivery of community resilience planning efforts including, but not limited to: hazard mitigation planning, climate adaptation planning, climate risk assessments, disaster resilience and recovery, and climate action plans. + Utilize GIS skills for map development, risk analysis, and geodatabase design. + Prepare comprehensive plans, reports, presentations, and functional tools to meet project needs. + Provide quality reviews and technical reviews on project deliverables prepared by junior team members. + Identify, develop, and maintain public and private client relationships and play a key role in winning and delivering new projects. + Prepare and contribute to winning proposals: define and manage project and/or task objectives, scope, schedule, budget, contracts, subcontracts, and multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure client and project team satisfaction in alignment with Stantec’s PM Frameworks and maintain compliance with ISO 9001 certification. + Facilitate effective stakeholder outreach and engagement such as development of public presentations, roundtable discussions, and community engagement. **Qualifications** **Your Capabilities and Credentials** + Proven track record for developing climate risk assessments and adaptation plans a must. + Demonstrated success as a self-starting “doer/seller”, who can quickly collaborate and engage with colleagues, across the US and across disciplines, to contribute to a growing national practice with limited supervisory support. + Proficiency in climate model output analysis, familiarity with working with large datasets, and climate data analysis; data interpretation is a must. + Proficient in ArcGIS and MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email and calendar functions. + Proven and demonstrated high quality technical writing skills. + Excellent leadership, communication, organizational and collaboration skills including effective management of simultaneous projects and tasks. + Additional proficiency in Hazus-MH or related risk assessment tools a plus. + Certification from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) or CC-P, AICP, CFM, ENV SP, PMP, or related a plus. + Passionate about mission-driven community resilience with the eagerness to work in a time-sensitive, fast-paced team environment! **Education and Experience** + Bachelor’s degree or graduate education in meteorology, atmospheric or environmental science, environmental management, urban planning, GIS, environmental engineering, or related field. + Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience including work and/or graduate-level education or higher. Office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, or combination of office and field. When circumstances allow, some travel may be required (approximately 20%), such as meeting attendance at agencies or clients. May occasionally visit study areas and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
