Clinical Assistant
Overview JOB DUTIES The Department of Surgery is home to (5) five divisions; Acute Care Surgery, General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and ENT. A professional multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. Responsibilities Essential Functions • Prepares patient for the providers care. Assist with patient examinations or treatments, takes patients vital signs • Correctly document all entries into the medical record either electronic or hard copy, may perform scribe functions by documenting all provider/patient interactions in the medical record under the supervision and responsibility of a licensed clinician • Observe and report patients’ signs or symptoms, administer basic first aid • Collects routine lab specimens, perform venipuncture and administer non-controlled routine medications, performs medication reconciliation. • Participates as an active care team member in the coordination of patient care. • Provides a standard of excellence as it relates to customer service for patients, staff members, and other customers. • Assists with test scoring and report documentation • Participates in performance improvement projects. Temperament Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility. Required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Qualifications Experience Requirements Degree in medicine, with plans for career in dental, medicine, advanced medical practice, pharmacy, chiropractor, physical and occupational therapy, or other allied medical fields. ****5 years of relevant work experience required**** Certification/Licensure Requirements Certification/Licensure Required/Preferred Qualifier Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire UFJPI is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Drug Free Workplace
