Responsibilities of this position may include teaching, scholarly activities, professional service, and curriculum development. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to participate collaboratively with other faculty in teaching and support of all educational courses within the PAD . Department/College Background The Physician Assistant Department is accredited for a 100 new student cohort per year. The Physician Assistant curriculum is 28 months in length. There are 16 months of didactic courses and 12 months of clinical experience. The department is approved for 20 faculty. Minimum Qualifications Masters Degree in Health Care major Discipline Specific Required Qualifications 1. Applicants must have a minimum of a master’s degree. 2. Applicants must have (or be eligible for) an active, non-restricted Texas License in their respected profession (if applicable). 3. MD/DO candidates must hold (or be eligible for) appropriate Board certification. Physician assistant applicants must be NCCPA certified. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
