The Clinical Data Analyst is responsible for data needs related to the DFCI research community, including: managing the coordination, standardization, harmonization, quality assurance, and documentation new clinical data assets from a variety of operational and other sources into the DFCI enterprise data warehouse (DFDW); working with research teams to identify research data assets from the DFDW for use in research applications and databases, including structured and unstructured data; and working collaboratively with the Informatics staff to develop improved access to research clinical data through the Oncology Data Retrieval System (OncDRS) and the DFDW.

 

The Clinical Data Analyst is responsible for identification, analysis, specification, integration, and quality assurance of research data in the DFDW. In this capacity, the incumbent reports to the Associate Director of Research Data Acquisition and works closely with Data Services to identify and analyze potential data assets and integrate these assets into the DFDW. The incumbent is expected to manage this process with minimal guidance, from specification gathering through deployment, including liaising, and coordinating with external groups, producing detailed project plans, specifying underlying data components, and working alongside the existing Informatics technical and operational teams to ensure seamless integration and implementation within the existing Informatics workflows.

Responsibilities Works with researcher to identify and define the data needs from DFCI, affiliates and external systems to support cancer research.Mapping, curating, normalizing, and harmonizing additional clinical and operational data for the enterprise data warehouse.Participates in the development of data governance policies and processes to ensure that data usage complies with information security and privacy standards.Develops processes and analytics to measure and ensure the quality and completeness of research data being generated from operational and other systems.Developing and implementing a process by which external groups can access data from DFDW for research projects.Working closely with Informatics and other enterprise groups on enterprise-wide data/metadata documentation, data model specification, and the application of ontologies and terminologies to ensure the quality and usability of data for research users.Assisting with the creation, coordination, integration, and maintenance of controlled vocabularies and ontologies used in the DFDW.Responsible for the security and confidentiality of private clinical and financial information.Utilizes Dana-Farber Cancer Institute values to govern decisions, actions, and behaviors. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in science, Mathematics, Business, Information Systems, Public Health, or related field required. 3+ years of experience performing data analysis in a professional setting, required; experience in SQL reporting or data mart development, required.Experience in research or healthcare strongly preferred.Demonstrated experience working with customers, developing requirements, doing data analysis and exploration with SQL required. 3+ years of experience working with electronic medical systems; Epic Clinical Data Model certification strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate, collaborate, and drive discussions that enable consensus-based solutions with cross-functional teams including both clinicians, scientists, technical and non-technical/scientific/medical staff. Excellent problem resolution and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail. Strong organizational skills including an ability to establish priorities, exercise good judgment, meet deadlines, and ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner.Ability to adapt to frequent changes in priorities and demonstrate the ability to manage many moving pieces and projects simultaneously.Ability to effectively conduct meetings, both formal and informal including departmental and clinical user meetings.Self-motivated, possessing the ability and to learn quickly work under minimal supervision in complex environments.Ability to represent the interests and mission of DFCI consistently and ethically and act on behalf of its current and future patients.
