Job Summary

Flexible remote work arrangementsCollaborates with members of health care team to provide inpatient medical nutrition therapy in accordance with established standards of care. Identifies patients at risk and assesses nutrition needs according to age specific physiological and developmental assessment criteria. Designs, coordinates and implements nutrition care plans, monitors outcomes of intervention and adjusts when indicated. Provides nutrition education to patient and family to achieve goals of medical nutrition therapy. Evaluates and maintains professional development/competency. Supports the highest possible patient satisfaction levels, ensuing program effectiveness.

JOB DUTIES

Performs key functions of nutrition care according to policy including nutrition screening, assessments, development of care plan and follow up monitoring/reassessment.Collaborates with patient and/or family and health care team to assess, develop care plan, monitor, and evaluate outcomes. Identifies, monitors, and evaluates enteral and parenteral nutrition support regimens. Develops and implements transitional feeding plans.Identifies potential food/herb drug interactions and communicates/counsels per policy.Communicates nutrition care issues through interdisciplinary care rounds, individual consultation with health care team members and appropriate documentation in the medical record.Educates patient, family, healthcare team and community in medical nutrition therapy.Assesses learning needs, barriers to learning, preferred learning styles and educational level and provides nutrition education accordingly. Uses education strategies appropriate to patient’s needs and site of care.Applies JCAHO and/or other regulatory standards in the provision of nutritional services.Conducts patient rounds to determine adequacy of intake and assesses acceptability of meals, service, and overall patient satisfaction.Participates in interdepartmental and intradepartmental performance improvement activities related to patient care and service.Participates in research protocols and development of clinical pathways in assigned area(s) of responsibility.Utilizes system practice guidelines, protocols, references, and approved diet manual in the provision of nutrition services. Directs nutrition colleagues in the delivery of products and services.Utilizes appropriate assessment tools/equipment (scales, skin fold caliper, growth charts, computer, etc) properly.Promotes outpatient services to patients, area physicians and health care professionals.Demonstrates behaviors consistent with identified competencies and job requirements (i.e. skills validation, continuing education, age specific validation, mandatory in-services, safety training, annual TB testing, and organizational integrity program.Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

Other Job Requirements

Strong verbal and written communication skills are required in addition to excellent interpersonal skills, independent problem solving, decision-making, time management and leadership skills. Computer skills strongly preferred.Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Education: Bachelor's degree from Coordinated Program or Didactic Program in Dietetics and Dietetic Internship or Pre-professional Practice program all accredited by the Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education (CAADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Master’s degree strongly preferred. New graduates must complete minimum educational requirements within 6 months of hire.Licensure: Active registration status with the State of Indiana and the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association is required. Active professional certification specific to practice specialty strongly preferred when applicable. New graduated must obtain registration within six months of hire.Experience: Experience in general clinical dietetics practice desirable. One year’s experience in practice area preferred.
