The Clinical Education Specialist at Western Psychiatric Hospital is a leadership role focusing on designing, implementing, and evaluating education and training programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, and support personnel. The Clinical Education Specialist ensures that education aligns with evidence-based psychiatric practices, regulatory standards, and the hospital’s mission to provide high-quality mental health care.
The role emphasizes fostering clinical excellence through competency development, professional growth, and mentoring, while supporting the unique challenges and specialized needs of psychiatric nursing in an acute care environment. Behavioral Health experience is preferred. This role will support 10 inpatient units, Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), Center for Interventional Psychiatry, and others.
**Responsibilities:**
**Quality Improvement**
+ Engage in quality improvement and promote best practices.
+ Mentor staff on projects and research.
**Mentorship and Feedback**
+ Mentor new staff and preceptors.
+ Serve as a resource for patients and staff.
+ Participate in performance improvement and self-review.
+ Maintain certifications and participate in organizations.
**Education and Training**
+ Facilitate orientation and continuing education.
+ Develop nursing care standards and policies.
+ Promote patient education.
**Leadership and Problem Solving**
+ Lead hospital-wide projects.
+ Solve problems creatively.
+ Facilitate student experiences and specialty courses.
**Communication and Relationships**
+ Build positive relationships and communicate transparently.
+ Convey information clearly.
+ Verify and address competency gaps in direct care staff.
+ MSN or Master's in related field, OR DNP
+ If masters in related field required, BSN required
+ Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience.
+ Relevant teaching experience.
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located. CPR certification required. UPMC approved certification preferred CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
