Clinical Educator

Status:   PT

Provides continuing nursing educational activities which include initial clinical competency assessments, record maintenance, policy making, needs assessments, implementation and evaluation processes.  Supports managers and preceptors in clinical staff development activities.  Coordinates clinical educational programs including teaching, taping, distributing programs and maintaining records.  Conducts and analyzes a basic needs assessment annually for all nursing units.  Implements plans for meeting identified needs.  Responsible and accountable for assessment of those who have or are at risk for cardiovascular disease, selection of intervention strategies to achieve optimum outcomes, implementation of education and rehabilitation modules, monitoring and evaluating participation and progress, adjusting strategies and treatment modalities as necessary and reporting progress to physicians.  Will integrate the role components of clinician, teacher, counselor, and exercise therapist.  Develops and implements participant orientation, education, exercise, risk modification and counseling.  Remains knowledgeable regarding regulatory and practice advancements in the field of Cardiopulmonary Rehab.  Bachelors Degree required, Master’s degree Preferred.  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holds a current license in professional nursing from the Alabama State Board of Nursing.  At least 5 years experience in a hospital or teaching related environment.  Education and Management experience is preferred.  Must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the lifespan and the ability to communicate data and instructional material to the staff served in the position.  Must have knowledge of the nursing process and Joint Commission Standards. Cardiac  Experience required.  

Basic Cardiac Life Support.   A thorough knowledge of nursing principles, procedures, and their application required.  Excellent communication skills required. Must complete and maintain required departmental competencies.  ACLS and PALS instructor Status is Preferred.  ACLS required.
