Clinical Ethicist

Inova Center for Personalized Health is seeking a Clinical Ethicist to join the Ethics team. This position full-time (40 hrs/week). Requirements for consideration:

Two years of clinical ethics consultation experience. This experience may include fellowship experience. Masters in Healthcare Ethics or related field. Fellowship with master’s, preferred. Terminal post-graduate degree, such as a MD, PhD or JD, in a field related to bioethics Highly preferred. Certified Healthcare Ethics Consultant- preferred.

Preferred skill set: 

Collaborative, high emotional intelligence, develops high quality relationships, objective, demonstrated ability to perform a high volume of consults in a fast-paced environment,  Familiarity with health care policy development and organizational ethics.  Team-oriented professional with proven ability to work both independently and in a complex interdisciplinary environment to achieve mission goals and deadlines. Demonstrated ability to build consensus and foster change in a business setting. Training in conflict resolution or mediation is essential.

Job Responsibilities:

The Clinical Ethicist provides ethics consultations in support of safe and effective quality care.  Develops, implements, maintains and evaluates ethics orientation and educational program offerings.  Ensures compliance with institutional policies, and regulatory and accreditation standards pertaining to clinical ethics and patient rights.  Researches and stays abreast of all pertinent literature and developments including medical, theological, scientific and legal that showcases advisory opinions provided by ethics consultations and the program in general. Provides hospital-wide activities and initiatives related to the ethics program. Participates in clinical ethics committees/forums and collaborates with clinical teams, patients and families to address ethical issues. May perform other duties as assigned.
