Clinical Evaluator - Superior Court

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to perform clinical evaluations of participant referrals to assigned court programs.  

Essential Functions:  

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Evaluates referrals to assigned court program; performs initial assessment interviews; evaluates participant's biopsychosocial capabilities, risk, and treatability; requests access to and obtains medical and behavioral health records; schedules drug screenings for potential participants; and notifies court liaison or other involved parties of assessment and screening results.

Develops treatment plans for participants; reviews records and documentation; determines need for mental health, substance abuse, structured activities, or other treatment; discusses treatment plan recommendations with potential participant and case management team; reviews expectations; resolves concerns/ problems pertaining to treatment plan; evaluates and recommends changes to plans as necessary; and maintains case management files and records.

Serves as a liaison with program participants and the court; maintains communication with participants; provides support and encouragement; identifies need for and provides appropriate intervention; ensures participant compliance with established treatment plan; alerts program team regarding concerns, problems and compliance issues; and schedules random site visits, drug screens or other monitoring activities.

Manages and coordinates social service activities; coordinates referrals to mental health and social service agencies based on need for housing, food, financial support, childcare, transportation, education, and/or crisis intervention; develops assessment tools, forms, and documents for social service use; participates in community outreach events; and provides program education and referrals.

Participates on multidisciplinary team; provides clinical perspective and feedback regarding referrals and active participants to program team; collaborates with team members to evaluate participant progress; relays screening, mental health provider diagnosis, and other information to team; and maintains individual participant records.

Maintains a current, comprehensive knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, principles and practices relating to court ordered clinical evaluations; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; and attends meetings,

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Social Work or a related field required; two years of experience in the mental health field (experience in the criminal justice system preferred); or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required:  Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license; and must possess and maintain licensure as a Master Social Worker (LMSW).
