The clinical extern program employs learners from various disciplines (such as nursing, medicine, respiratory therapy, and paramedics) as unregulated health care providers who support clinical teams in the Emergency Departments at four Hamilton Health Sciences sites:

The Clinical Extern is an integral member of the healthcare team, as an unregulated care provider, in the Emergency Departments at HHS. As part of the interprofessional healthcare team, the Clinical Extern will support high quality care for patients and families, while demonstrating a commitment to excellence in supporting the patient and family experience.
