Clinical Extern Paramedic

The clinical extern program employs learners from various disciplines (such as nursing, medicine, respiratory therapy, and paramedics) as unregulated health care providers who support clinical teams in the Emergency Departments at four Hamilton Health Sciences sites:

• Hamilton Health Sciences is currently seeking for Clinical Extern positions in the following areas:
Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Center
• Hamilton General Hospital
• West Lincoln Memorial Hospital
-McMaster Children's Hospital

The Clinical Extern is an integral member of the healthcare team, as an unregulated care provider, in the Emergency Departments at HHS. As part of the interprofessional healthcare team, the Clinical Extern will support high quality care for patients and families, while demonstrating a commitment to excellence in supporting the patient and family experience. Clinical externs are involved in delivering care to our patients, which include completing head to toe assessments and vital signs, promoting patient safety through falls risk assessments and skin assessments, help with activities of daily living, and other interventions that are assigned or delegated to them by a regulated healthcare professional. Clinical Externs will work under the direct/indirect supervision of an Extern Coordinator.


The Clinical Extern position is open to students in their 2nd year of an approved Paramedic Program. Externs will be hired on a part-time temporary basis until September 2025.

5. Demonstrated strong communication and organizational skills
6. Demonstrated infection prevention and control practices
7. Effective interpersonal and communication skills
8. Demonstrated successful completion of a recent clinical placement.
