The Clinical Extern Program employs learners from various disciplines (such as Nursing (PN BScN),Occupational Therapy,
Physiotherapy, Respiratory Therapy, and Paramedics) as unregulated health care providers who support clinical teams.
• Hamilton Health Sciences is currently seeking Clinical Externs to support a wide range of patient populations, including; medical/surgical, pediatrics, women's health, rehabilitation, periop, critical care, rehabilitation and ALC across the following Hamilton Health Sciences sites:
• Juravinski Hospital
• Hamilton General Hospital
• McMaster Children’s Hospital
• St. Peter’s Hospital
• West Lincoln Memorial Hospital
• Satellite Health Facility
• Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre

The Clinical Extern – Physiotherapy Learner is an integral member of the healthcare team, as an unregulated care provider. As part of the interprofessional healthcare team, the Clinical Extern will support high quality care for patients and families, while demonstrating a commitment to excellence in supporting the patient and family experience. Clinical externs are involved in delivering care to our patients, which include measuring vital signs, assisting with personal care and activities of daily living (including feeding, dressing, bathing, and toileting), promoting patient safety through falls risk assessments and skin assessments, help with repositioning, transfers and ambulation, and other interventions that are assigned or delegated to them by the interprofessional team. Clinical Externs will work under the direct/indirect supervision of an Extern Coordinator.
The Clinical Extern position is open to Physiotherapy Students enrolled in a recognized Physiotherapy program with the successful completion of one clinical placement.
The Clinical Extern will be hired on a part-time and temporary basis until March 31, 2025.
