Clinical Informaticist Lead

Pay Range:

$39.43 - $51.29

The Clinical Informatics Lead (CIL) will be responsible for overseeing the work of the Clinical Informatics team, ensuring the effective implementation, support and optimization of clinical information systems. This role requires strong leadership and management skills, in addition to informatics experience. The ideal candidate will be adept at coordinating team efforts and driving initiatives that enhance healthcare delivery through technology. The CIL will work hand in hand with the Nursing Informatics Lead to lead and oversee multiple informatics initiatives to improve patient care and operational efficiency.

Team Leadership

The CIL will oversee and provide visionary leadership for the work and Clinical Informaticists. Responsibilities include

Facilitating communication and collaboration between team members to ensure alignment on project goals and responsibilities.

Mentoring team through the sharing of knowledge, constructive feedback, and by fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.

Leading by example to inspire a high level of professionalism, dedication, and ethical behavior within the team.

Coordinating with other departments and stakeholders to ensure that clinical informatics initiatives are integrated seamlessly into broader healthcare strategies.

Advocating for the needs and priorities of the Clinical Informatics team in organizational planning and decision-making processes.

Encouraging and supporting team members to develop their professional skills and pursue opportunities for career advancement within the organization.

Facilitation of team meetings.

Work management

The CIL will coordinate with Informatics and IT management to manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables for all Clinical Informatics projects.   Responsibilities include

Development and management of project plans that outline tasks, timelines and resource allocation.

Monitor and communicate performance of each project via regular status updates and performance metrics.

Change and task management

The CIL will oversee the team's efforts, ensuring tasks are allocated evenly and deadlines are met. Responsibilities include

Monitoring support tickets and alignment with Service Level Agreements.

Ensuring that all team members have the necessary resources and support to complete their tasks efficiently.

Coordinating with other departments to address any task-related interdependencies

This position will facilitate Tier 2 Application support and may have after hours on-call requirements.

Training and Support

The CIL will ensure the effective onboarding of new clinical informaticists to the team. This encompasses training and ongoing support to equip new hires with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in their roles.

The CIL is responsible for implementing a robust onboarding program that includes:

Introductory training sessions that cover the role of clinical informaticists at SEARHC, the organizational structure, the challenges of healthcare provision in SEARHC’s geographical location, and the specific tools and systems used to help mitigate some of those challenges.

Hands-on training with clinical information systems, facilitated by experienced team members, to ensure practical understanding and proficiency.

Regular check-ins and feedback sessions to monitor progress, address any challenges, and provide guidance on best practices and efficient workflows.

Assigning mentors from the existing team to new hires, fostering a supportive environment where they can seek advice, share experiences, and build professional relationships.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

Bachelor’s degree in informatics, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or a related field is preferred, though relevant experience with customer service, information systems, or clinical/business operations may be substituted for a degree

Certifications in health informatics or project management are a plus.

Experience Required

At least 5 years of proven experience in informatics or related work doing systems support, process improvement, workflow analysis, demonstration of ability to lead or facilitate projects or work efforts, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, including ability to adapt communication to a variety of audiences and facilitate collaboration among key stakeholders

Travel Required

Clinical informatics staff work out of several SEARHC locations.  Occasional travel to those sites (<25%) is required.

Travel is by jet, small aircraft, and ferry.
