Clinical Lab Assistant Student

Job Description:

The Lab Assistant Student learns the performance of laboratory organization and patient care by ordering, preparing and directing specimens to appropriate lab / testing, and providing appropriate customer service.

Posting Specifics:

Entry Rate: $16.56/hour. Once the 6-week training program is complete, students would be eligible to be placed into a permanent Lab Assistant role and receive an increase to $18.12/hour.Shift Details: Full-time, 40 hours/weekDepartment: Laboratory General, St. George Regional Hospital

Job Essentials:

Learns receiving, ordering, processing, labeling and auditing of specimens according to established procedure, recognizes factors that may affect testing outcomes, takes appropriate action to solve problems, and consistently documents solutions according to established protocols.Learns and maintains appropriate knowledge of all computer systems and test ordering practices insuring all specimens are properly entered in all computer systems.Learns how to effectively communicate specimen collection and handling requirements, providing service to external and internal customers.


Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED in compliance with CLIA regulationsDemonstrated ability to work in a team environment under stressful situationsDemonstrated self-motivation skills and able to work independentlyDemonstrated basic computer skillsFlexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, and nights

Interact with others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information.
