Clinical Lab Scientist I
Job Title: Clinical Lab Scientist I Job Description We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Clinical Lab Scientist I to join our dynamic team in a small but global molecular diagnostic company. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge molecular techniques and manual assays in a collaborative and supportive environment. Responsibilities + Perform all manual technical procedures related to specimen preparation, specimen type, protocols, and procedures. + Operate automated laboratory instrumentation, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair as required. + Accurately transcribe patient test results from raw data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). + Document all testing activities, including patient specimens, proficiency testing, quality control results, preventive maintenance/calibration of instruments, and LIS results entry. + Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results and notify Laboratory Operations Management or Laboratory Director. + Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications. + Inspect, label, and store incoming materials from the QC Department. + Contact suppliers regarding performance of laboratory reagents and equipment for troubleshooting purposes. + Maintain complete and up-to-date records, including department logs, files, and worksheets. + Effectively communicate laboratory results requiring immediate attention. + Train and cross-train licensed CLS and non-CLS employees. + Administer and perform competency assessment testing for new employees as scheduled. + Complete assigned tasks in MasterControl within required timeframes. Essential Skills + At least 1 year of US Diagnostic Lab experience within the past 2 years, or newly graduated CLS with previous US lab experience. + Active Generalist or CGMBS (Clinical Genetic Molecular Biology Scientist) license. + Very good communication skills to effectively communicate with other CLSs across multiple shifts. + Outgoing personality and flexibility to adapt to a small company culture. + Bachelor of Science, Master’s, or Ph.D. from an accredited institution with a major in chemical, physical, or biological sciences. + Current State of California license. + ASCP Certification preferred. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in Genetic Molecular Biology, specifically Real-Time PCR. + Familiarity with LIMS and LIS systems. + Basic knowledge of clinical pathology. Work Environment/Shift This position is based in a small molecular lab that requires dynamic and flexible team members. The lab utilizes a lot of newer assays and molecular techniques that are performed manually. The shifts needing to be filled include: Sunday-Thursday, 4 AM-12:30 PM (priority); Tuesday-Saturday, 4 PM-12:30 AM; and Tuesday-Saturday, 12 AM-8:30 AM. The lab currently has 12 Clinical Lab Scientists and reports to the Lab Supervisor.
