Clinical Lab Tech Evenings
**Employment Type:** Full time **Shift:** Evening Shift **Description:** **GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:** Provides services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Performs Moderate and High complexity laboratory tests in any assigned department of the clinical laboratory to provide physicians with rapid and accurate laboratory test results. This position is qualified to perform duties of quality control reviews, quality assurance activities and direct observation of competency assessments. **SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:** Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or Health Related Science field required. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:** This will be a Monday-Friday opportunity, 8-hour evening shifts. Meets Health System's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations. Performs waived, moderate, and highly complex analytic processes without direct supervision. Uses laboratory procedures and techniques for which he/she is qualified, trained, and demonstrates competency according to established lab standard operating procedures (SOPs). Operates, calibrates, and performs minor troubleshooting on laboratory instruments and ensures proper functioning of laboratory equipment. Performs quality control procedures as specified in lab section SOPs and maintains QC records and documentation necessary to meet the standards of accrediting agencies. Follows appropriate specimen collection, handling, transport, and recording procedures Resolves sample handling problems or refers problems to a Certified Medical Technologist and/or Supervisor. Processes data, verifies accuracy, and enters data in the laboratory computer system in a timely manner. Appropriately performs internal and external proficiency testing (PT). Meets output measures as defined by individual group policy. Assists with workload in any section where competency has been verified and is current. Recognizes critical patient results and follows the defined process for reporting them. Recognizes abnormal, unexpected or implausible results, errors, and problems with patient tests. Consults with a Certified Medical Technologist, or Supervisor to resolve problems. Appropriately prioritizes order of testing and assists with the coordination of general workflow in assigned area. Evaluates QC results to determine validity of testing using defined parameters. Responds to technical questions consistent with level of training. Trains new and current employees in procedures and policies. Maintains adequate inventory of reagents and supplies. Reviews laboratory procedures and suggests improvements and efficiencies. Collaborates with and directs Technicians and Technologist Trainees as assigned.
