Clinical Lab Tech Supervisor
Job Title: Assistant Laboratory Manager - Blood BankJob Description We are seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to assist the Laboratory Manager with the day-to-day operations of the blood bank. This role involves human resource management, customer service, and collaboration with medical directors, physicians, patient care staff, reference labs, and other business partners to optimize blood banking practices while maintaining accreditation and licensure. Responsibilities + Develop and mentor technical staff, setting high morale and motivation within the Blood Bank. + Maintain training files for staff members; train and evaluate the competency of Blood Bank staff. + Coordinate and work with technical staff on a daily basis, ensuring technical procedures are performed according to SOPs and quality standards. + Review Antibody Identification Workups, Transfusion Reaction Workups, ABO Discrepancy Workups, and result exception reports. + Supervise staff performing tests, ensure proper training, and review daily test performance. + Initiate corrective actions and follow-ups as needed, communicating results to the appropriate directors. + Ensure technical procedures are written and reviewed according to regulatory guidelines. + Establish and monitor quality control procedures, document and report findings for regulatory inspection. + Participate in quality assessment and improvement programs, identifying opportunities to enhance services. + Recruit staff, making hiring and promotion decisions, and train, evaluate, and counsel section employees. + Schedule section employees, ensuring appropriate coverage and avoiding overtime where possible. + Select, implement, and maintain technical equipment, evaluating cost-benefit and making recommendations. + Maintain knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements, ensure readiness for inspections, and correct compliance issues. + Maintain section supply inventory and address related problems. + Follow and enforce all laboratory and hospital safety policies, handle hazardous materials safely, and ensure staff training in safety procedures. Essential Skills + Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology (BSMT) or equivalent qualifications. + Minimum of five years of blood bank experience in a hospital setting. + Multiple years of leadership experience in a clinical laboratory. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience working with children's hospitals and leading a team to impact patient lives. + Ability to meet CLIA qualifications for moderate complexity laboratory testing. + Minimum of three to five years of experience required. + Preferred: Multiple years of leadership experience in a clinical laboratory. Work Environment The position involves working in a hospital setting with a focus on blood bank operations. Staff must follow all safety policies, including chemical safety and infection control, and use personal protective equipment such as gloves, laboratory coats, shields, and goggles. The role requires handling hazardous materials and ensuring proper labeling, storage, and disposal. The work environment is collaborative, with opportunities for professional growth and development.
