Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Flow Cytometry Technologist.
In this role, the successful candidate performs clinical laboratory tests on various types of specimens for diagnostic purposes. Follows standard operating procedures for specimen staining. Acquires and analyzes data using flow cytometers. Actively participates in Quality Control and daily laboratory maintenance activities.
Job Responsibilities:
Data acquisition: Operates cytometers demonstrating knowledge of various types of software. Sets up instrument for acquisition according to the test and panel. During acquisition matches sample number and antibody combination on the tube and in the computer.Temperature and humidity monitoring: Performs daily checks and records temperatures of all refrigerators freezers and water baths. Records ambient temperature and humidity.Equipment start up: FACS Calibur: During cytometer warm up checks sheath fluid level empties waste and primes fluidics. FACS Canto: During cytometer warm up replaces sheath fluid clean and shutdown solutions, empties waste, and runs Fluidics startupCalibration and Instrument QC Monitoring: FACS Calibur: Daily calibrates instrument using FACSComp software. Prepares CaliBrite beads and runs lyse/wash and lyse/no wash calibrations. Checks if all parameters passed and records results in the log book. FACSCanto: Daily runs 7 color calibration for T cell subset and CS and T beads for leukemia/lymphoma immunophenotyping. Checks if all parameters passed and records results in the log book.Reagent preparation: Prepares all reagents according to the recipes described in Standard operating procedures. SOP manual Checks their pH and labels containers with content concentration and expiration date and initials.Cell isolation: Prepares samples to be tested isolates leukocytes from peripheral blood bone marrow and tissue specimens based on standard operating procedures. Working with single cell suspension counts total number of cells and determines their viability using microscope and hemocytometer. Adjusts cell concentration accordingly.Sample staining and cryopreservation: Clearly labels tubes with sample number and antibody combination. Performs cell surface and intracellular staining according to the panel following SOP. Follows safety procedures. Makes an aliquot of the cell suspension and freezes it at 80 C according to SOP. Maintains records of all frozen aliquots.Minimum Qualifications:
NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory TechnologistBachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university or education requirement grandfathered by the NYSOPOne year experience in a clinical laboratory - completion of an internship at a qualified institution is acceptable.Effective Interpersonal communication skills required.Preferred Qualifications:
ASCP certification in Flow Cytometry1-3 years experience in a flow Cytometry laboratoryQualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $96,670.42 - $121,542.23 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
