Clinical Laboratory Supervisor 2nd Shift

 The hours for the role are 4:00 PM to 12:30 and cover the 2nd shift 

The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor comprises the CLIA required roles and responsibilities of the Technical and General Supervisor of a moderate and high complexity Laboratory.  This role is the clinical lead role under the supervision and direction of the Laboratory Director.  The technical consultant or technical supervisor is responsible for technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory.  The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of testing personnel, quality assurance, and reporting of results for the following areas: Chemistry, Immunochemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, A1C, Diasorin Testing Assays, Molecular testing (specifically Hologic Panther), and Urinalysis Departments. 

 

The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for supervision of subordinate technical personnel, data collection, preparation and training on new equipment, review of test results, resolution of issues, problems, and/or complaints, and continuing laboratory accreditation by all accrediting/licensing agencies.  The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor ensures quality service levels from all shifts and a high quality, cost effective, product or service in support of the goal and objectives set forth by the Laboratory Director under the guidance of the Ancillary Committee and Clinical Council.

Primary Responsibilities:

Laboratory Personnel:

Supervises the work and daily operations of the laboratory medical technologists to ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures. Evaluates and updates laboratory procedures and methodologies Participates in a team approach to provide 24/7 on call assistance to laboratory testing personnel by providing on-site, telephonic, or electronic support Prepares work schedule, assigns and prioritizes work to staff, ensuring adequate coverage at all times; prioritizes work when equipment fails and short staffing occurs; may perform duties of subordinate employees during equipment failure and/or shortage of staffing and/or on an as needed basis Actively seeks opportunities to model teamwork through collaboration both within and outside the Ancillary Division in support of the organizations objectives Ensures that staff maintains a strict adherence to ProHealth Laboratory Quality Control Program as outlined by COLA.  Alerts director when guidelines are breached Trains or oversees training of new staff.  Ensures proper training by reviewing ProHealth Laboratory Training Checklist for completion and sign off by employee and trainer/observer. Maintains training documentation Provide orientation to all testing personnel Identifies training needs and ensures testing personnel receive regular in-service training Develops and administers Competency checks for technical aspects of the technologist job duties.  Maintains proper competency testing records of all testing personnel. Evaluates the competency of all testing personnel on an ongoing basis Evaluates and documents performance of individuals responsible for testing at six months and twelve months in the first year of employment and yearly thereafter, unless test methodology or instrumentation changes, in which case, prior to reporting patient test results, the individual’s performance must be reevaluated for the new test methodology or instrumentation Annually evaluating and documenting the performance of all testing personnel. Perform MAP performance evaluations and goal setting for all laboratory Medical Technologists

 

Technical:

Responsible for providing technical direction to the staff in the Hematology, Coagulation, A1c, Diasorin Testing Assays, Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rates, Molecular testing (specifically Hologic Panther), and Urinalysis testing areas Maintain strict adherence to CLIA, State of Connecticut DPH, and COLA regulations.  Is the primary participant in all laboratory State Of Connecticut and COLA  inspections Monitors test analysis and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained Ensures that all laboratory instrumentation and equipment is functioning properly and producing the highest quality results by utilizing tools and knowledge gained at pre-go-live training course provided by vendor.  Troubleshoots as required to maintain up time of analyzers.  Works with vendor field service to manage preventive maintenance schedules and troubleshooting problems, trends and issues.  Performs monthly QA of all maintenance records. Maintains maintenance records for laboratory instruments, centrifuges and thermometers Responsible for ensuring all proficiency testing is completed on time following the COLA guidelines.  Performs QA review of proficiency testing results.  Performs follow up troubleshooting, corrective action and QA reports for any proficiency testing failures.  Maintains proficiency testing records Responsible for maintenance of laboratory materials stock. Creates, maintains, and adjusts standing orders as needed. Orders laboratory supplies to keep the laboratory properly stocked and minimize any waste of laboratory materials Selects test methodologies appropriate for the clinical use of the test menu Verifies test procedures performed and establishes the laboratory’s performance criteria, including accuracy and precision of each test and test system Enrolls the laboratory in an approved PT program commensurate with services offered Establishes a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed Establishes the acceptable levels of analytic performance, and ensures these levels are maintained throughout the testing process Resolves technical problems and ensures remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications Ensures patient test results are not reported until all corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly Maintains all physical aspects of the laboratory building. Responsible for DI water systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, waste disposal, and cleaning services

 

Quality Control/Quality Assurance:

Provides Quality Control Measures for test procedures; reviews and documents results; implements corrective action(s) when tolerance limits are exceeded Resolves day to day operational problems related to system, personnel and equipment performance Uses resources effectively and efficiently to achieve the goals and objectives of the work team within established budgets by recommending budget expenditures, monitoring progress, and shifting resources to meet changing needs Performs weekly and monthly quality assurance reviews of quality control Levey Jennings data. Monitors, adjusts and troubleshoots quality control data as needed.  Establishes and monitors ranges for quality control material data Assumes responsibility for self-improvement, in collaboration with director, by identifying, communicating and seeking resources or instruction/validation to meet own learning needs, and is self-directed in maintaining currency of validations Performs monthly QA of all maintenance records Performs follow up troubleshooting, corrective action and QA reports for any proficiency testing failures Maintains and monitors patient data trend report. Conducts quality assurance measures to address patient data trends

 

Communications:

Maintains effective, positive customer service relationships by responding to customer needs and resolving conflicts.  Effectively and continually communicates with the staff, management, and customers to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the success of the work team Active member of the Laboratory Quality Assurance Committee, presents, reports, provides input into decisions and discussion. Makes technical suggestions for improvements or changes to the Laboratory Director and/or Ancillary Committee Produces detailed reports to providers when there are quality issues, demonstrating if, when, and where quality was breached and measures put in place to deter them from happening again Presents at Ancillary Committee meeting as needed to gain approval to new testing methodologies and changes to normal ranges and critical call lists

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology OR Science American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) board certification 7+ years of experience performing clinical laboratory testing in the disciplines mention of which 2 years are in a supervisory or group lead capacity

 

Connecticut Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $70,200 to $137,800 annually.
