( https://hr.uw.edu/benefits/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2018/02/benefits-summary-classified-staff-greater-than-half-time-20220908\_a11y.pdf) **This recruitment offers a $3,000 Signing Bonus to eligible new employees joining UW Medicine** . **The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology** has an outstanding opportunity for a **Clinical Laboratory Lead** in the Harborview Medical Center Microbiology Lab. **WORK SCHEDULE** + 100% FTE (40 hours per week) + Evening Shift **POSITION HIGHLIGHTS** + Vacation time and sick time off that accrues monthly, including 12 paid holidays + Fully subsidized public transit pass (U-PASS) that covers multiple forms of public transportation in the region + Excellent healthcare, dental, disability, and retirement plan options + Lots of free fitness, healthy eating, finance, and stress reduction classes offered through the Whole U + State Employee Tuition Exemption Program covering up to 6 credits of qualifying coursework per quarter at the University of Washington or other participating colleges or universities + Eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program as a UW employee **PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES** + Correctly process patient, proficiency, and environmental specimens for analysis to include the following: specimen identification, appropriate orders, assessment for acceptability or rejection, specimen preparation/ concentration, media/ smear inoculation, incubation, storage, etc. + Perform patient and proficiency tests without errors by following SOP as identified by current policies and procedures for the areas trained to include: specimen Gram stains, specimen testing with kits or molecular platforms, specimen AFB stains, etc. When assigned, review the work of staff to insure reports are correct and clinically relevant. Insure corrected reports are issued ASAP and timely corrective actions are taken and documented. + Utilize information management systems to accession, status, verify, and reject orders. Correctly input test results using the laboratory information system. + Demonstrate the ability to report critical values, STAT results, courtesy notifications, and routine results according to established protocols, insuring turn-around-times are consistently within guidelines and documentation is complete. + Demonstrate the ability to perform and document routine quality control and preventative maintenance according to established protocols assisting staff as needed. + Provide daily leadership. Oversee daily operations of CLT staff to include: the management of workload, providing timely technical assistance to staff and clients, responding to inquiries and complaints, insuring safety compliance, minimizing overtime, etc. + Provide leadership in the instruction and training of employees, post-doctoral fellows, residents, medical students, medical technology students, etc. Recognize ineffectiveness or deficiencies in performance and provides fair and timely feedback to the individual in order to improve performance. Provide input on staff and student evaluations in a timely manner. + Assist in the development and evaluation of new processes and/ or procedures and participates in improving current processes. + Provide administrative assistance to include: interviewing and selecting new employees, evaluating employees, documenting staff competencies, recommending cost containment strategies, etc. Additional tasks that may be assigned include: scheduling, purchasing supplies, quality improvement projects, and others as needed. + Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care or other services based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patient. + Performs related duties as required. **REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS** High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experienceOREquivalent education/experience. **ABOUT UW MEDICINE – WHERE YOUR IMPACT GOES FURTHER** UW Medicine is Washington’s only health system that includes a top-rated medical school and an internationally recognized research center.
