What you'll do The Clinical Laboratory Technologist II (Medical Technologist) performs clinical laboratory procedures, examinations and any other tests or procedures conducted by a clinical laboratory, as defined by Title Five of Article Five of the New York State public health law. A Clinical Laboratory Technologist II prioritizes tasks without intervention from the Technical Specialist/Team Leader or manager/supervisor. A Clinical Laboratory Technologist II provides prompt and accurate laboratory test results and/or prepares products for transfusion in support of patient care, including maintaining equipment and records, and performing quality assurance activities related to examination performance, which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, as determined by the department. Correlates knowledge and understanding of theory to independently solve problems and answer questions. May be assigned responsibility to direct, review, and /or verify work of other clinical laboratory personnel and or/students. Performs and verifies (reports) laboratory tests and/or prepares products for transfusion on acceptable specimens to obtain accurate data in accordance with established procedures and protocols and in a timely manner. Performs quality control (QC) processes and proficiency testing (PT) as assigned. Maintains laboratory equipment, instruments, reagents and/or supplies and documentation required in performance of job responsibilities. Follows all institution and department policies and procedures. Maintains a clean and orderly work environment. Direct, review, and /or verify work of other clinical laboratory personnel, students, and/or nursing staff as assigned. Any Clinical Laboratory Technologist meeting NYSDOH qualifications of supervisor (part 58 of 10 NYCR, section 1.4) may be required to perform supervisory functions in the absence of the regular supervisor. Meets requirements for Clinical Laboratory Technologist I and performs at least eight of the following to maintain career ladder status: Meets competency level at least for tests that are offered STAT in more than one technical area (Chem/Hem/Micro/Blood Bank) or Bassett Network Lab or meets competency in sub-specialty area(s). Participates in vendor on line courses, on-site or off site instrument training. Actively assumes responsibility as primary operator of an analyzer, or specialized work area. Works productively with minimal errors and follow-up. Serves a technical resource for other staff members, sharing knowledge pro-actively with other members of a section or shift or lab. Utilizes expertise in a designated specialty on a routine basis to benefit the department. Actively pursues responsibilities that are necessary to the department and that which provides professional growth to the individual employee. Is routinely self-motivated and enthusiastic. Utilizes expertise in a designated specialty beyond the scope of a CLT such as Processing, phlebotomy, etc., on a routine basis to benefit the department. Provides on-going support and assistance to POC. Follows up appropriately when problems are encountered in an independent manner. Consistently is able to assess a problematic situation, consider alternatives and choose the appropriate course of action. Willingly participates and is actively involved in the training of students and new employees. Completes training documentation for each trainee/student for each area assigned, within the agreed time frame, as noted by review of training and competency assessment checklist, or student checklist. Provides a positive training experience for staff/students as assigned, as indicated by trainee input and observation of manager/supervisor/technical specialist. Actively participates in coordinating and maintaining Nursing Competency Assessments. Willingly assumes charge person and/or “Go To” responsibilities during the week, on weekends and holidays. Performs other duties within their scope of practice assigned. What we need from you Education: Qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health Regulations, required 4 year / Baccalaureate degree in relevant science, required Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in standard laboratory methodologies, required Minimum 1 year Clinical Laboratory Technologist experience, required License/ Certification: Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required, or licensure-eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Limited permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit. Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. Pay Range Minimum: USD $33.96/Hr. Pay Range Maximum: USD $50.94/Hr.
