Minimum Qualifications:
RN with bachelor’s degree in nursing. Three (3) years acute care (Emergency, Medical-Surgical, or Critical Care) nursing experience and Three (3) years supervisory or management experience (i.e. Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Supervisor) required. Current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas. Certification in nursing specialty or administration required.LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

Represents Health System Leadership with on-site operational and clinical leadership on a 24-hour basis. Ensures administrative continuity to staff, patients, and families while acting as a liaison for the hospital administrator on call and the patient care services management team. Is aware of and responds to activities occurring within the entire house during assigned work hours. Works in conjunction with physicians, hospital staff, and departments to prioritize admissions to the most appropriate bed available, based upon medical necessity and admission criteria. Communicates with all departments, as appropriate, to maximize efficiency and to expedite the admission, transfer and discharge processes. Acts independently to provide crisis management, interpret policy, and make timely decisions that directly impact patient care. Serves as the administrative liaison to patients, families, UTMB employees, and external customers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Communicates with nursing staff at all levels of the institution in a professional manner. Collaborates with appropriate individuals, including physicians, in resolving conflicts and problems. Assists Nursing Management and Clinical Staffing Office in the appropriate placement of nursing staff and has the final authority for staffing decisions during assigned hours. Analyzes trends in utilization of resources and recommends changes to the Nursing Directors and/or Nurse Managers. Collaborates with support departments to ensure supplies, equipment, and/or service is available for patient care. Establishes collaborative relationships with physicians to resolve clinical/operational issues. Holds staff accountable for policies, standards, and performance as outlined in their job descriptions. Identifies education needs of staff and communicates to Nursing Director and/or Nurse Manager. Counsels staff as appropriate and notify Nursing Director and/or Nurse Manager for further disciplinary action. Reports unusual activities or any flexed beds during assigned work hours to Chief Nursing Officer and the appropriate Nursing Director and Nurse Manager. Collaborates with the Admitting Office and patient care areas to ensure appropriate and timely placement of patients. Assesses patient care areas to ensure all available beds are clean and ready for an admission. Directs Bed Management meeting during assigned hours. Collaborates with the Nurse Managers and Nursing Director on Call to assure appropriate staffing decisions and bed availability for the current and projected patient census between Bed Management meetings. Follows up with patient care areas, supervisors, and physicians to facilitate timely discharge. Maintains appropriate contact with Hospital Administrator on-call to make them aware of any unusual situation and to assist the Hospital Administrator with any clinical issues. Identifies problems with quality patient care and initiates action for resolution, including notifying the Nursing Director and/or Nurse Manager. Ensures that any information related to risk management is addressed and documented. Responds to emergencies to ensure appropriate management. Facilitates achieving designated QM objectives during assigned hours. Receives calls from other health care institutions and resolves immediate issues or responds to requests. Provides information to the Office of Public Affairs regarding patients or situations of interest to the media. Ensures that the hospital disaster plans and policies are followed throughout the hospital and coordinates activities as needed.
