Scope of Work

The Infectious Disease (ID) Clinical Pharmacist Specialist is responsible for providing professional infectious disease pharmaceutical care. Ther person will focus on continuous growth, maintenance, and documentation of the antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP). This will be accomplished through collaboration, coordination and communication with pharmacy leaders, hospital administrators, pharmacists, medical staff, infectious disease physicians, infection control and prevention, microbiologists, information technology and other healthcare workers. The person is responsible for consolidation of the antimicrobial formulary; control antimicrobial costs; ensure clinical and microbiological effectiveness of antimicrobials; decrease the emergence of resistance; education of prescribers (including pharmacists, nurses and ancillary healthcare providers); decrease adverse reactions and predisposition to secondary infections and improve overall patient care.

Provides leadership for all Pharmacy clinical activities within assigned area. Embraces the goals/objectives encompassing Pharmaceutical activities. Promotes team efforts with pharmacy and non-pharmacy personnel to manage and achieve departmental/corporate objectives. Provides support for staff development so that staff meets/exceeds minimum competency standards and encourages/supports staff to continue professional development. Demonstrates good judgment and decisiveness throughout daily activities. Maintains knowledge of current pharmaceutical practice and demonstrates a personal commitment to professional growth. Serves as role model of clinical excellence to staff pharmacists. Supports management by providing oversight, guidance and support for all assigned areas. Participates in the planning, organization, implementation and follow up of new programs and activities. A key role of the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is to promote safe, appropriate, and cost effective medication therapy.

Qualifications

Required Bachelor's Degree Pharm.D. or Bachelor degree in pharmacy.Preferred residency training.3 years of relevant experience 3 years of experience as a clinical pharmacist or pharmacy residency/fellowship preferred. In absence of residency training, candidates with demonstrated superior knowledge (board certification, considerable practical clinical experience, etc.) in area of focus may be considered.
