Job Summary
The Massachusetts General Hospital Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) Program is a vibrant clinical and research laboratory that serves as a national referral center for evaluating symptoms that arise during physical activity. Types of evaluations range from resting measurements of metabolic rate to altitude simulation studies and comprehensive exercise studies that rely on direct hemodynamic measurements of heart and lung performance. The laboratory also serves as a core laboratory for the National Institutes of Health and Industry-sponsored clinical research and performs innovative research that aims to improve exercise capacity across a wide spectrum of patients with heart and lung conditions.This Data Analyst - Clinical Research Coordinator position offers the opportunity to work directly with Dr. Gregory Lewis in the MGH Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Laboratory. Responsibilities will include obtaining and maintaining patient data and study records, screening and recruiting patients for clinical studies, conducting data analysis on exercise studies submitted to the MGH Exercise Core Laboratory, and working on all aspects of clinical research project design, implementation, and communication of results. The ability to work independently is a must. This is the ideal position for someone looking to work with a dedicated group of people to further the advance clinical research in cardiopulmonary diseases while gaining invaluable medical and research experience.
Qualifications
The Data Analyst - Clinical Research Coordinator Coordinator will have broad responsibilities regarding the maintenance of the databases across multiple studies performed by the research group. The candidate will help to upkeep databases with ongoing data collection, plan and develop programs for statistical analyses, execute these programs, and interpret the results. The candidate will assist the investigators in the preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals based on the results. Opportunities will exist to propose research ideas, as well as broaden his/her research background with varied tasks and assignments.
The successful candidate will have a background in math and science with strong quantitative and computational skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks are essential. The candidate must be self-motivated, independent in task completion, and comfortable accepting feedback and guidance from colleagues.
This position is ideal for someone interested in pursuing medical school or further graduate studies.
Responsabilities:
Participates in research protocols spanning a large range of areas that primarily relate to applied human exercise physiologyRecords and analyzes data from cardiopulmonary exercise studies submitted to the MGH exercise core laboratoryActively participates in research database creation, upkeep, and analysis. (Competencies with Excel, VBA, and/or STATA are preferred)May assist with writing protocols and manuscripts for submission to research journals and national scientific meetings.Experience in database design and management is preferredMust demonstrate statistical/analytic and reasoning skills to perform high level of problem solving. Experience with Excel, STATA, and VBA programming is heavily preferred.Strong communication skills, a strong desire to contribute to the research team and a positive, proactive, attitude are required.
