Clinical Research Nurse
Institute for Medical Research at the Durham VA Health Care System Clinical Research Nurse PI: Dr Rajesh Swaminathan The Institute for Medical Research (IMR), an affiliate of the Durham VA Health Care System (DVAHCS), is looking for a full-time Clinical Research Nurse. The major purpose of this position is to conduct VA relevant clinical research projects as conceived and defined by the principal investigators. The work of the clinical research nurse contributes to the local and nation research mission of the VA. A successful person in this role will screen patients for inclusion in research studies based on predetermined criteria. Broaden recruitment efforts by developing relationships within the Department of Cardiology and with the appropriate ancillary services such as the Hospital Laboratory, Pharmacy, Radiology etc. Directly confer with patients with respect to the informed consent process. Maintain longitudinal follow-up with patient visits, exams, etc as required by each study protocol. Submit and maintain study case report forms, whether paper or electronic, in a timely and efficient manner. Write research clinic notes in the VA’s computerized record system for physician review & signature. Location: This position is hybrid. If in-office: This position is located in Durham, North Carolina and candidates must be willing to relocate prior to start date. If remote: IMR employees must reside in the state of North Carolina. Duties and Responsibilities: + This includes coordinating protocol mandated research appointments with other patient VA appointments, advance planning with the drug research pharmacist (when appropriate) for dispensing of research related medications, scheduling with electrophysiology device representatives. Serving as back-up study nurse for other cardiology clinical research nurse(s) and assisting with office work flow as needed. + Coordinate with academic research organizations/commercial research organizations to complete and maintain regulatory documents in a timely and efficient manner. Maintain and facilitate the maintenance of correspondence between IRB, sponsor and principal investigator. + Facilitate communications between study subject and other care providers when needed Qualifications: + Must be Registered Nurse with Bachelor Degree in Nursing; experience in Cardiology nursing preferred Physical Requirements: The physical requirements and activities that are required to perform the essential functions of the position include, but may not be limited to, as follows: Must be able to occasionally lift, pull and push a minimum of 20 pounds , stand for extended periods of time, sit for extended periods of time, squat, kneel, and stoop, regularly use fingers, hands for computer work. Supervisory Controls: The position of Clinical Research Nurse is under the direct supervisor of the PI Dr Rajesh Swaminathan. Salary Range or Rate of Pay: $65,000 - $85,000 Status: Exempt Start Date: Expected start date will be 4- 6 weeks after the offer but is somewhat flexible and contingent upon completion and approval of VA paperwork.
