Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) - Physician Office - St. Francis Medical Center - Midlothian, VA - Travel will be required between various offices

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Research Nurse is a competent clinician who utilizes the nursing process and current clinical knowledge to provide professional nursing care.  Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient’s physical, learning and psychosocial care.  Coordinates clinical drug study protocols, using diverse clinical assessment and administrative skills and knowledge, to ensure that the appropriate data is compiled and reported, protocol and regulatory requirements are met, and study participants follow correct steps. Conducts study protocols in accordance with sponsor requirements, FDA, state regulations, and BSR policies and procedures. Provides appropriate clinical assessment of study patients to provide quality care throughout the study and follow up period.  Confidentiality and accuracy of all study records will be ensured

           

Employment Qualifications

Skills and proficiency in applying principal, concepts and techniques which are central to the research process. Masters degree preferred Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Proficient in use of Windows based MSOffice (Word and Excel). Familiar with the use of   standard office equipment. Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology. Experience in use of clinical trial protocols preferred. Demonstrates ability to coordinate and prioritize diverse tasks. Ability to interpret data, adapt and apply guidelines of research principals. Five years clinical or related experience. Must possess the knowledge of clinical, psychosocial and path/physiological theories       related to nursing diagnosis and treatment and can competently perform the range of    nursing techniques found in general nursing practice as normally acquired through completion of an accredited nursing program. Maintains CPR certification.

Essential Job Functions

Participates in marketing with local physician groups to identify protocol candidates.Maintains a master list of all candidates, active, follow-up, and survival protocol patients. \\Develops and maintains systems for data retrieval, submission, summary and analysis for in-house protocols.Maintains, organizes, and archives protocol charts.Interfaces with other disciplines to facilitate accurate and timely data submission.Contacts patients and physician offices to verify patient protocol compliance related to follow- up tests/exams as required by the protocol.Ensures, in collaboration with physicians that eligible patients are enrolled and that informed consent, pre-treatment evaluation and preparation of candidate patients is completed and properly documented.            Maintains accurate and up-to-date knowledge of various studies and participation requirements.Utilizes clinical experience and physical skills to delineate  and define the physiological status of the patient.  In addition, utilizes these skills to assess the educational , psychological and spiritual  needs of the patient \\significant other\\family.Instructs patients and or significant  other regarding treatments, surgical procedures, nursing plans, interventions and tests to allay apprehension and elicit cooperation.Explains and demonstrates home care methods and techniques necessary for continuing patient care and rehabilitation.Clarifies and carries out physician’s orders in a timely manner.Initiates and follows through with problem solving strategies that lead to resolution of patient care issues.

Operations:

Enroll patients in the Research studyAssociated visits, appointments and admissions with the research study (Utilizing the both the Reporting workbench report and within the patients chart)Review Charges via the Research Billing Report to determine which are billed to Insurance and which are billed to the research study
