CLINICAL RESOURCE NURSE
Summary The Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) has specialized knowledge in horizontal leadership and is accountable for the management of care, the environment of care, and assists the Clinical Nurse Manager with the day-to-day operations of the department. The CRN has 24-hour accountability for the care provided in collaboration with the department manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities + Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry. + Assists the Clinical Nurse Manager with performance improvement plans and progressive discipline as needed, mentoring staff for self-improvement. + Performs clinically 40% of the time taking a full assignment or charge role. + Develops an overall view of patients, families and caregivers, and establishes strong partnerships with them to deliver optimal care. + Accountable for patient safety and quality outcomes. + Use of an electronic medical record + Attends unit-level meetings and nursing councils/committees (i.e., UAC, staff meetings, to assess standard of practice and to disseminate professional practice information. + Collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary team, identifies and implements patient care initiatives that support the highest quality of care delivered. + Develops, implements, and evaluates practice improvements using quality tools for patients on his/her unit. + Understands and educates the nursing team to the organizations strategic plan, balanced score card and participates in the development of the unit-based department alignment board. + Participates in planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient outcomes for a defined cohort of patients. + Assures that there is continuous assessment/improvement of services provided through department auditing and as an active member of the Nurse Practice Council, Wound Committee, Fall Prevention Committee, and other Quality Improvement organizational activities. + Assists in meeting requirements of outside regulatory agencies including DNV, CMS and other agencies as appropriate to the service area. + Uses established nursing standards/policies when designing patient care following the New Hampshire Board of Nursing and ANA guidelines. + Maintains knowledge of hospital policies and procedures and disseminates updated and new polices to staff. + Incorporates evidenced-based practice into clinical care delivered by self and others. + Collaborates with Nursing Leadership, and Education, to improve the competency of all staff members and the delivery of patient care services. + Incorporates performance improvement data, current evidence- based practices, and adult learning theory into nursing professional development practice. + Actively participates in department huddles and the organizations daily safety huddle. + Acts as a unit champion for new products and services implemented both unit based and hospital wide. + Is visible, accessible, and committed to communicating effectively with staff. + Demonstrates leadership skills and is responsible to organize, manage and evaluate the function of a team. + Acts as the tele-neurology designee as needed + Maintains nursing licensure and certifications required for the department – must remain current at all times. + Flexible schedule to ensure adequate communication and training to all staff. + Other duties as consistent with this role. Job Requirements Job Knowledge and Skills + Registered Nurses working in specialty areas must meet requirements for those specialties as determined by that specific discipline Education and Experience + Current, valid New Hampshire Registered Nurse License required + Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) required + Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred or obtained within 90 days of hire + Successful completion from an approved School of Nursing preferred + Minimum of 3-5 Years clinical nursing experience required + BSN degree preferred + Certification in specialty preferred + Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or obtained prior to completion of orientation + Membership in a professional organization preferred + For OB/GYN + Specialty Certification required + Neonatal Resuscitation required + Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements. Working Conditions/Physical Demands Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting/carrying frequently up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Some stress related to high level of responsibility for quality care.
