Position Summary: Functions as a staff nurse under the guidance and supervision of an experience R.N. Performs routine patient care assignments and carries out established nursing procedures utilizing the nursing process. Education: Hold a current Texas permit or license as a Registered Nurse. BSN preferred. B. Training and Experience: 1. One year experience in acute care setting preferred. 2. Current BLS certification required. 3. Successful completion of hospital and nursing orientation within 3 months of hire. 4. ACLS certifications within 6 months of hire or transfer to department. 5. PALS certification within 6 months of hire or transfer to department 6. EKG course within one year of hire or transfer to department. 7. Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or transfer to department: · Lab order entry · Documentation · IV therapy · Unit safety · Body substance isolation · Handling controlled substances · Role in Code Blue · Admitting patients to the unit 8. Outpatient PACU staff: · Understanding anesthesia agents · Understanding reversal agents · Planning care of the patient · Implementation of care · Arrythmia recognition · Role in Code Blue · Pacemakers · Respiratory needs of patients · Neurological system · Musculoskeletal system · Medication decision making · PACU equipment · Evaluation of care
