Clinical Specialist/Physical Therapist - Rehab Medical

The Clinical Specialist/Physical Therapist serves as a clinical role model to all rehabilitation employees by providing quality direct patient care effectively and efficiently. Initiates and provides ongoing educational and staff development activities to assure that highly competent care is delivered by all personnel within the department. Initiates and contributes to ongoing program development involving rehabilitation services.
A caregiver in this position works Day/Evening/Night/Weekend, from 8:00am—4:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide clinical expertise in the evaluation and treatment of patients and serves as a role model to rehabilitation employees in providing direct patient care effectively and efficiently.
Attend continuing education programs to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of therapy skills and current activity in the profession.
Develop patient treatment protocols and complete protocol revisions.
Provide regular updates to the Manager, Rehabilitation Services on status of ongoing program and staff development activities.
Perform an evaluation on each patient assigned to determine problems to be addressed, which may include range of motion, muscle strength, gait pattern, sensation, balance, coordination, perception, skin integrity, respiration, and determination of functional ability.
Review patient chart for pertinent medical history and current hospital course, including test results and x-ray reports.
Establish treatment goals and formulate treatment plans based on patient evaluation.
Analyze and interpret patient's needs, based on medical history, x-rays, tests and evaluation.
Administer treatment using skilled techniques. Reviews and revises treatment plans as necessary as treatment program progresses.
Delegate patient treatment to Physical Therapy Assistant or Occupational Therapy Assistant as appropriate.
Direct and supervise the activities of support personnel, while retaining direct responsibility for patient care.
Perform patient evaluations and treatment planning for Physical Therapy Assistants or Occupational Therapy Assistants.
Educate patients and their families about the patient's functional status, appropriate preventive and therapeutic exercises, adaptive equipment, and modalities for post-discharge care.
Ensure coordination of treatment goals and discharge planning by participating in patient rounds, team meetings, patient care conferences, etc.
Participate in education programs for Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy personnel, nursing personnel and other professional staff.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy.
Current Ohio licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT) or Occupational Therapist (OT).
Five years of experience as a therapist.
Demonstration of clinical competence in a particular area of practice.
Demonstration of leadership in program development/process improvement projects/staff and/or student development.
Pelvic Floor experience, specialization.
Desire to lead and grow a therapy specialty in Women's Health/Pelvic 50% 0f the caseload other 50% is a mix of general Physical Therapy and Sports Therapy.
Primary Location is Massillon PT but may also include our Jackson site.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling, for example, during gait training.
Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm or leg during exercise program.
Sensation to touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient's pulse.
Visual acuity to observe patient's gross movement, gait, etc., in order to analyze biomechanical problems.
Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families who may not be able to read.
Ability to hear or understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.
Mental ability to interpret clinical data for the establishment and implementation of appropriate patient treatment.
Ability to identify and resolve problems using critical thinking and decision-thinking.
