Clinical Supervisor of Ambulatory Care Services -RN V

The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking an experienced and dynamic Clinical Supervisor of Ambulatory Care Services, Registered Nurse V. The Clinical Supervisor of Ambulatory Care Services is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the administrative aspects of care for the Primary Care and Specialty Clinics, Radiology Procedures, and the Employee Health Office. Serving patients and clients from DPH, DOC, DMH, DDS, shelters, and the community, the Clinical Supervisor ensures the effective utilization of resources to enhance patient care. This role encompasses the oversight of all clinical activities within the Ambulatory Care Center, guaranteeing that the nursing process is applied upon each patient’s admission and that an appropriate care plan is executed. Additionally, the Clinical Supervisor integrates Lemuel Shattuck Hospital’s nursing standards, policies, and procedures with state and federal laws and regulations to maintain excellence in clinical practice.

Hours: 8:30AM-5PM, Monday-Friday with Weekends Off

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

Oversee and coordinate the administrative aspects of care for Primary Care and Specialty Clinics, Radiology Procedures, and the Employee Health Office.Maintain and evaluate continuity of nursing care, ensuring compliance with TJC and CMS regulations.Integrate ACC Department philosophy and standards with professional practice for quality management and improvement of care.Promote performance improvement and educational development based on nursing theory.Collaborate with nursing leadership to assess and improve performance and integrate findings into nursing practice.Provide administrative oversight through statistical analysis, incident reporting, and multidisciplinary meetings.Supervise subordinates, arrange training, and initiate disciplinary actions when necessary.Monitor medication variances and analyze trends in collaboration with the Pharmacy Director.Maintain knowledge of patient health status and report staffing needs to the Director of Clinical Services.Review and evaluate critical practice areas and ensure compliance with Hospital P.I. Plan.Direct staff in delivering comprehensive care across multiple clinics.Communicate and encourage participation in the hospital’s mission and strategic goals.Plan and evaluate staff development programs to address clinical needs and promote career development.Maintain educational, competency, and credentialing records for all staff.Oversee Employee Performance Review Systems and set goals for staff development.Ensure personal and professional development by staying current with nursing practices and certifications.Advocate and act as a resource for staff, patients, families, and the community regarding hospital policies and procedures.Contribute to safety, risk management, and infection control programs.Assess and provide age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care.Ensure continuity of care through proper communication and hand-off policies.Oversee emergency preparedness training for all licensed staff.Respond to Code Blues and emergencies, providing corrective action plans.Prepare quarterly statistical analysis and maintain policy/procedure manuals.Act as a community resource professional for ACC patients.Provide education and competencies for IV insertion and management.Assist physicians with bedside procedures.Oversee the Employee Health Clinic, ensuring compliance with health assessments and injury follow-ups.Identify and analyze trends requiring interventions.Assist the Chief of Cardiology with special tests.Identify staffing needs, conduct interviews, and ensure HR compliance.Conduct investigations and root cause analysis of incidents.Oversee department budget and ensure equipment purchases meet operational needs.Collaborate to ensure coverage for clinics and appropriate billing processes.Monitor compliance with Hospital-Wide TB Prevention Program.

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of supervision principles, including planning, assigning, and reviewing work, and initiating disciplinary actions.Understanding of training methods and the ability to conduct nursing training.Familiarity with employee performance evaluation methods.Effective communication and report-writing skills.Ability to motivate staff and remain calm in stressful situations.Knowledge of performance improvement related to TJC/CMS standards.Experience with interventions for special client groups (mentally, physically, or emotionally handicapped).Understanding of custodial care issues for special client groups (e.g., blind, auditorily impaired).Proficiency in CPR and ACLS measures.Ability to gather information through observation, interviews, and record examination.Ability to interact positively with diverse social, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.Skill in allocating nursing personnel according to patient care needs.Effective performance of ACC nursing duties.Prior outpatient setting experience.Leadership abilities and the capacity to develop programs/initiatives.Conflict resolution and advanced problem-solving skills.

Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds.
