Clinical Support Technician Pulmonary

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

High school diploma or GED.

Must meet one of the following:

Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program or currently registered as a pharmacy technician with one or more years pharmacy technician experience OR

Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program and current Nursing Assistant Certification

Current BLS certification for health professionals through the American Heart Association or Red Cross required and maintained. On-line BLS certification is not acceptable

Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling

Demonstrated ability to function with multiple priorities and interruptions

PREFERRED:

At least six months recent (within the last 3 years) experience in a direct patient care or pharmacy setting

Excellent interpersonal skills

Computer skills preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must possess speech, hearing and sight skills to perform the functions of the position. Manual dexterity required. Must be able to speak, read and write English proficiently. Proficiency in other languages may be required. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds waist high.

POSITION PURPOSE:

Service excellence is to be centered on patient care and patient relationships and is the responsibility of all employees. Teamwork is the norm and all employees will be held accountable to work as effective team members. Provide/support patient's care by performing tasks and duties consistent with professional standards, ICSI guidelines, and GHI policies and procedures. In addition, may function in supply aid and/or sterilization capacity. Maintain a safe work area and ensure that it is adequately stocked, cleaned and organized. Implement cleaning and sterilizing procedures to support infection control and OSHA standards.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Perform functions that support / provide patient care.

A. Patients are roomed according to rooming and/or ICSI guidelines.

B. Vital signs and other pertinent physical measurements are obtained and recorded accurately.

C. Expanded medication history collection and updates to ensure quality and accuracy of medication list (according to authorized policy and demonstrating proficiency) and documented according to GHI policy.

D. Charts are reviewed for the presence of pertinent information relevant to today’s encounter. This may include Prepared Practice work as developed by the team.

E. Needed and requested health educational materials are provided to the patient and documented.

F. Patients and their records are handled in a private and confidential manner per GHI policies.

G. Seek medical and/or nursing assistance when encountering an acutely ill patient or a patient with a changing condition.

H. Exam rooms and treatment rooms are prepared for examination of the patient and set up for procedures.

1) Patient is prepared for medical interventions.

2) The exam/procedure room is prepared and the provider is assisted as needed.

I. Charts are prepared and station records maintained which may include the following:

1) MSRs are checked for completion and routed appropriately.

2) Lab, x-ray and miscellaneous forms are prepared when requested.

3) Drug refills are processed according to clinic protocols.

4) Station logs, (i.e., pap, pathology, etc.) are monitored as assigned.

5) Prepare charts for patient appointments as indicated by the type of clinic visit and the reason for the appointment according to established practices and procedures.

J. Facilitate timely and accurate flow of communication within the clinic/location.

1) Messages and test results are accurately received and relayed to the appropriate person/location in a manner consistent with clinic practices and/or standards.

2) Gathers all necessary and appropriate information from a caller and relays information to the appropriate provider for necessary follow-up.

3) Reception desk is informed of provider’s schedule status. Will assist in coordination of urgent and non-urgent provider schedule changes to ensure patient and provider needs are met.

4) Patient correspondence performed when requested.

5) Patients are assisted in completing forms when appropriate.

 

2. Cleaning and sterilizing procedures support infection control and OSHA standards.

 

a. Instruments and equipment are prepared and sterilized according to procedure.

b. Complete scheduled cleaning requirements for the designated work areas. Document completion of work to comply with infection control and OSHA standards

c. Implement other infection control procedures as needed.

d. Adheres to protective clothing requirements.

 

3. Clinic supplies are adequately stocked and well organized.

 

a. Department inventory requests are processed and delivered in a timely manner.

b. Responsible for supply requisitioning according to clinic procedures.

c. When receiving supplies, equipment and other authorized deliveries, check merchandise against packing slip and report all damages and discrepancies.

d. Prepare returns for shipment with all appropriate documentation.

e. All designated areas are stocked adequately. Expiration dates are routinely checked. Outdated supplies are removed and/or replaced

f. Maintains prescription sample supply cabinet as per clinic/location protocol

 

4. All equipment is properly maintained and adequate records are kept.

 

a. An inventory of instruments and equipment is kept current.

b. Instruments and equipment are calibrated as needed and maintained in proper working order. All maintenance is documented.

 

5. All responsibilities are carried out in support of clinic operations and support services.

 

a. There is evidence of positive teamwork with all disciplines

b. All interactions reflect positive customer service

c. Problems are identified and reported to appropriate persons. Follow-up is consistent.

d. Keep apprised of information presented at staff meetings and in-services.

 

6. Other tasks are correctly performed as assigned
