Clinician | Western Psychiatric Hospital

This position supports the Behavioral Health Service Line within UPMC Western Behavioral Health. The Clinician is based at Western Psychiatric Hospital and travels within the UPMC behavioral health network facilities for purposes of aligning and standardizing clinical education and workflow processes across PA, NY, and MD. The Clinician serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice and focuses on direct care support for process improvement. The Clinician must demonstrate the knowledge and educational skills necessary to assess, plan and provide the clinical support and lead implementation of clinical initiatives related to behavioral and addiction services, identifying needs for improvement programs for addiction and mental health professionals and teams utilizing evidenced-based training curricula for varying age groups and populations. This position works directly with the WPH service line leadership team in carrying out the duties related to a broad range of clinical operations aimed at care process standardization, safety, and quality improvement.

This Clinician is based at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, 3811 O’Hara Street, Pittsburgh, PA  15213, and entails traveling across the behavioral health network facilities within the UPMC Western Behavioral Health Service Line to deliver direct staffing, patient, and clinical education, and support. Working hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.  Holidays and weekends off.

Disseminates new knowledge and innovations through presentations, posters, and publications. Applies nursing knowledge and skills within the framework of Relationship Based Care, using the nursing process to meet the clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient and family. Demonstrates critical thinking in the analysis of clinical, social, safety, psychological and spiritual issues for the patient care within an episode of care. Practices solid verbal and written communication skills and can articulate and translate the patient’s condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Ensures patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers. Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process. Identifies, educates, and supports the psychological and learning needs of staff during change and transition. Practices participatory leadership and is an active member of shared leadership at the unit, facility, or system level. Assumes formal leadership responsibilities for one or more of the following: quality improvement, evidence-based practice, GN or new hire on-boarding. Completes and/or assists with staff performance evaluations for direct reports as applicable.
