7th Level Engine Emissions Calibration Specialist

Hybrid Role: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as appropriate. 

Here at General Motors, we are looking for a hard-working person who enjoys taking on challenges and following through with robust solutions to join our Engine Calibration team! Engine calibration engineers work with vehicles, software, and algorithms to design and release engine calibrations to meet customer designs and performance requirements. They support the lead calibrator and diagnostic strategist, as well as stakeholders including the members of the vehicle platform, engine hardware, manufacturing plant and quality team. Depending on the area of responsibility, a Calibrator may focus more heavily on engine controls, serial data, platform interface, or diagnostic calibration functionality. These are meaningful roles that ensures the powertrain integration to vehicles performs at world class levels to meet program objectives.

This is a mid-level calibration position where the technical complexity, program scope, and program breadth combine to create a challenging role.  A few cross-system interactions exist in this role, interpersonal interfaces are required, and global reach is regional.  The candidate has some experience motivating others, can manage multiple projects and deadlines, and has experience with several vehicle systems/component domains.

Job Responsibilities:

Follow/author documented procedures to calibrate systems to meet product goals, and provide feedback for continuous improvement

Help create new procedures to document standard work for new technologies

Design and manage key strategic interfaces within Vehicle Calibration and/or Engine Controls

Help train new calibration engineers on calibration processes

Lead requirements development with other activities

Support root cause analysis

Lead troubleshooting activities for complex system issues across programs

Strong ability to efficiently capture and analyze empirical data.

Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices

Identify and document calibration vulnerabilities and build mitigation action plans; track corrective actions 

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related Engineering degree

Minimum of 4 years of technical and/or manufacturing engineering experience

Experience with data acquisition and analysis on complex problems

Knowledge of powertrain systems

Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms

Understanding of vehicle emissions calibration, testing and regulatory requirements

Valid driver’s license and ability to operate test vehicles

Additional Job Description

Preferred Qualifications:

Master of Science in Engineering

3+ years of experience with in-vehicle testing

Closed Loop Fueling, Purge Calibration and Fuel System Diagnostic expertise

Emissions Lab Testing experience

Experience INCA/ETAS data acquisition

Automotive OEM experience

Knowledge of  Software and Calibration Methods
