Cloud Architect
Location: Elkridge, MD (outside Baltimore, MD)
Visa: Prefer US Citizens or GC. Company will sponsor if we have a really good candidate but they would prefer not to (cost of course).
Interview: Phone screen, on-site and then hire.
The Cloud Architect will serve as a technical lead on all Cloud environments and traditional managed hosting environments. Our 3 largest products are uPerform, which is currently in a hosted traditional Windows/SQL application; uAlign’s production environment utilizes Engine Yard, AWS and RedHat Linux, while our uGuide is a .NET PAAS solution in a Windows Azure environment. You will be tasked with ensuring repeatability and promote automation of all Cloud Environments. The Cloud Architect is also responsible for the availability, scalability and recoverability of all Cloud environments including maintain a highly secured environment for our client’s data.
Responsibilities:
• Strong proficiency in supporting Production Cloud environments (AWS, Azure, VMWare) as well as traditional managed hosted environments.
• Proficiency in writing automation scripts using Chef, Puppet, Shell, PowerShell, etc to support infrastructure as code and continuous deployment.
• Ability to handle high stress situations and resolve critical production issues with little to no assistance from others.
• Ability to architect solution from the MVP state to the scalable productions environment.
• Knowledge of industry security best practices for customer data.
• Willing to participate in a 24/7 weekly on-call rotation with the Cloud Operations team.
• Manage cloud software deployments, with a focus on continuous integration and deployment.
• Design, build, and support the physical and cloud infrastructure that run our hosted as SAAS products.
• Design, build, and maintain the application environments from Dev all the way to production, with a focus on automation and repeatability.
• Implement and maintain internal systems key to DevOps operations such as database servers, continuous integration, and QA/Test servers.
• Continuously evaluate environments seeks ways to improve on security, reliability, and performance to support growth.
• Design and implement monitoring solutions to ensure visibility into infrastructure and enable self-healing as much as possible.
• Ability to tackle tasks and issues that will often not be well defined, and bring new creative ideas.
• Ability to work collaboratively with engineers from other teams on design, lifecycle, and expansion of our products to support new business requirements.
• Proven incident and problem solving skills with an emphasis on a timely resolution, while under pressure.
Expectation:
• 30 Days - Have a working knowledge of ANCILE’s current Cloud environment and offerings
• 90 Days - Be comfortable with supporting Cloud environments in their current state, including joining an on-call rotation. Also, you will be taking on autonomous work while coming up to speed on the inner workings of our applications and environment
• 180 Days - Be able to independently work issues and request from the product teams as they pertain to the Cloud.
• 365 Days - Fully functioning Lead Architect for all Production Cloud Operations
Requirements:
- At least 5 years’ experience of DevOps support experience in an enterprise IT or service provider environment.
- Solid Windows Administration.
- Linux Administration with scripting experience.
- Cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, or VMware
- Ruby on Rails
- XML
- Web Servers such as Nginx, Passenger, Unicorn, Tomcat, and IIS
- Experience with monitoring and log aggregation tools such as CloudWatch, CopperEgg, SumoLogic, Logentries
- Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining disaster recovery actions.
- Continuous integration and deployment systems (TeamCity, CodeShip, etc) and
- Scaling concepts (caching, CDNs, load balancers, auto scaling of VMs)
- Ability to work in a collaboration Agile Scrum and Kanban environment
Preferred:
- Strong in network and server tuning
- Experience with automation tools such as Chef, Puppet, Powershell
- Infrastructure as code automation
- Experience with Docker
- Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, including tuning and high availability
- Java, Python
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in related fields
