Cloud Engineer (Azure & OCI)

Job Summary:

NuAxis Innovations is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer specializing in Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to lead cloud security, engineering, and compliance efforts for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) contract. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, deploying, securing, and managing enterprise cloud solutions while ensuring compliance with NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, and RMF frameworks. This role will focus on cloud security risk management, continuous monitoring, and system authorization processes, collaborating with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and application development teams to maintain a secure and scalable cloud environment

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Migration & Optimization

Lead the migration of on-premises systems to Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), ensuring minimal downtime and security compliance.

Develop and implement cloud migration roadmaps, including lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and re-architecting approaches.

Conduct cloud readiness assessments, identifying gaps and risks before migration.

Leverage Azure Migrate, OCI Cloud Migration Service, and other cloud-native tools to optimize migration workflows.

Work with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless transition of applications, databases, and workloads to the cloud.

Optimize cloud costs by implementing reserved instances, auto-scaling policies, and resource right-sizing.

Ensure secure data migration, leveraging encryption, access controls, and identity management solutions.

Provide post-migration performance monitoring and tuning to maximize cloud efficiency.

Azure & OCI Cloud Engineering & Security Compliance

Design, deploy, and manage enterprise cloud solutions using Azure and OCI.

Ensure compliance with NIST Special Publications (SP 800-53, 800-37, 800-171, 800-137) and FedRAMP Moderate/High requirements.

Implement zero-trust security architecture and enforce least privilege access controls within Azure and OCI environments.

Develop and enforce Azure Policy, Azure Security Center, and OCI Security Zones configurations.

Risk Management & Continuous Monitoring

Develop, document, and implement a Continuous Monitoring Program (ConMon) for customer information systems in Azure & OCI.

Conduct security control assessments and enforce security baselines in cloud environments.

Utilize Azure Security Center, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Tenable Nessus, and Oracle Cloud Guard for vulnerability management.

Manage Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms) and provide risk mitigation strategies.

Authorization & Compliance Support (FedRAMP, ATO)

Provide technical security expertise in Assessment & Authorization (A&A) processes for cloud-based systems.

Assist in preparing Interconnection Security Agreements (ISA), Security Plans, and Risk Assessments.

Maintain CSAM (Cyber Security Assessment and Management) documentation and ensure FedRAMP compliance.

Support audit log reviews, security monitoring, and compliance reporting for Azure and OCI workloads.

System Engineering & Cloud Operations

Serve as a security advisor to cloud engineers, developers, and DevSecOps teams.

Integrate security into the System Engineering Life Cycle (SELC) for Azure and OCI solutions.

Ensure secure cloud automation using Terraform, Azure Bicep, ARM Templates, and OCI Resource Manager.

Implement CI/CD security controls for cloud-based applications in Azure DevOps and Oracle DevOps.

 

Required Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

10+ years of experience in cloud security, engineering, and compliance.

Strong knowledge of Azure Security Best Practices, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and Oracle Cloud Security.

Hands-on experience with NIST RMF, FedRAMP, FISMA compliance in Azure and OCI environments.

Experience with security assessment tools such as CSAM, Tenable Nessus, Azure Sentinel, and OCI Logging Analytics.

Preferred Certifications (Not Required but Highly Desired):

Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500)

Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert

Oracle Cloud Security Professional (Oracle Certified)

Certified Authorization Professional (CAP)

Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)

Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
