KBR has an immediate need for an energetic and dynamic Cloud Software Engineer at its Sioux Falls, SD location. KBR is the primary contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for performing work at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center near Sioux Falls.  The multidisciplinary staff, in partnership with NASA and in support of the Landsat project uses their unique expertise in remote sensing-based science and technologies to carry out research, data acquisition, information access and management and archive preservation to provide satellite ground imagery data to users and science organizations around the world.  This effort represents the world's longest continuously acquired collection of space-based moderate-resolution land remote sensing data with over four decades of imagery.  

Core Responsibilities:

The Cloud Software Engineer is responsible for all aspects of designing, developing, and maintaining software products throughout the development lifecycle on the Landsat project.  Responsibilities include:

Develop software components in the cloud to perform processing, archival, and distribution of Landsat productsCommunicate and coordinate activities and technical status with the Systems Engineer, Software Engineers, and other Project team members, as appropriateAnalyze and interpret technical data using statistical and mathematical methods and techniquesEnsure all software activities are conducted in accordance with the Software Development Life CycleAnalyze system and user requirements to define software requirementsIdentify software design and development tasks and provide an estimate for the workPerform and document preliminary and detailed design of components making up a software productDevelop and conduct unit, functional, and regression testingDocument the testing effort through generation of test plans, procedures, and reportsRespond to and resolve software discrepancies against documented requirementsParticipate in code peer reviewsDevelop and update software pipelines to build, test, and deliver software componentsDevelop infrastructure as code to perform software deployments

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

Experience: 4+ years of related experience in a Software Engineering environment is desired.  Experience with data ingest, image processing, satellite ground systems and/or cloud computing are a plus.

Required Skills:

The candidate must have previous 3 years US residencyExcellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills2+ years experience with PythonAbility to work independently as well as part of a teamKnowledge of software engineering methodologyRelational database experience, Postgres is a plusUnix/Linux experienceExperience with change management tools such as Git, GitHub, or GitLab

Desired Skills:

Master’s degree in degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fieldImage processing experience2+ years experience with C/C++Experience with AWS Cloud Service especially S3, EC2, EKS, ECR, and LambdaExperience with K8s, Docker, and containerizationExperience with CI/CDExperience with Terraform and Cloudformation

Candidates must have strong technical abilities, excellent communication skills, and a teamwork emphasis. Candidates must also be able to integrate into a highly-skilled Information Technology Team

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credentialThe candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user accounts.
