CLS III / Group Lead - West Hills, CA - Tuesday - Saturday - 10:00am - 6:30pm (flexibility needed)

This position provides assistance to internal and external clients; is accountable for working independently without supervision, relying on excellent communication skills to accomplish job accountabilities.  May oversee the laboratory in the supervisor’s absence. 

Pay Range: $56.10 - $62.40 / hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

May function as either a Technical Specialist or Assistant Supervisor  Demonstrates leadership through accountability and collaboration in daily activities. Consistently demonstrates a high level of initiative and problem-solving ability. Adapts to change in a way that promotes coordination and teamwork. Actively participates in or leads meetings.  Effectively delegates and utilizes individual skills of staff. Demonstrates effective two-way communication with staff, immediate manager, suppliers, internal and external customers, via meetings, written and verbal interactions, to create an informed positive environment. Serves as a technical resource for problem-solving and process improvement.  Devotes a reasonable amount of time to bench testing to the extent necessary to maintain the workflow of both assays and equipment. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies through documentation and quality improvement. Coordinates an effective quality process to ensure required documentation and quality improvement. Regularly updates the departmental standard operating procedures and database to accurately reflect the current process. Serves as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist II capacity, as needed. Provides direct and constant supervision to unlicensed staff as required.  

Depending upon the career path of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist III, job accountabilities may include: 

Participates in interviewing, training and providing feedback to Supervisor on individual and/or team learning progress. Effectively monitors and adjusts staff and assay schedules, to maximize department efficiency and meet established goals. Responsibility for procurement of appropriate supplies and equipment to maximize department efficiency and meet established budgetary and quality goals. Oversees test performance, driving process and project management and submission of required reports to meet established deadlines. 

Performs or oversees assay validations/assay modifications. 

Performs instrument and/or assay trouble-shooting. Helps to ensure the laboratory areas are neat, clean, and organized. Complies with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices. Required to use personal protective equipment. Other duties as assigned. This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities, but rather a general description of work performed by the position. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Work Experience:  

Minimum 4 years of progressive laboratory experience.

Physical and Mental Requirements:  

The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects. Objects in the weight range of 1 to 10 pounds are lifted and carried frequently; objects in the weight range of 11 to 25 pounds are lifted and carried occasionally and objects in the weight range of 26 to 50 pounds are seldom lifted and carried. Objects exceeding 50 pounds are not to be lifted or carried without assistance. Ability to perform repetitive tasks. Frequent simple grasping, reaching and fine manipulation.  Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods. Have good eye and hand coordination. Testing for color blindness will be required upon hiring or transfer into technical functions requiring detection of, or rating of intensity of colors (e.g., Fluorescent microscopy reading).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Application (Word, Excel, Outlook) Strong typing skills desirable. Other automation skills helpful.

Current State Clinical Laboratory Scientist license if necessary (e.g. California)(Required)
