Relief position; days, evenings, nights 

Job Summary

Cares for patients in medical facility, under direction of nursing and medical staff by performing the following duties, under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Answers bells to determine patient's needs.

• Attends to personal hygiene needs of patients.

• Dresses and undresses patients.

• Serves and collects food trays and feeds patients requiring help.

• Transports patients or assists patients to walk.

• Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors and answers telephone.

• Takes and records vital signs, height and weight.

• Records food and fluid intake and output as directed.

• Performs routine procedures such as collecting urine samples, catheter care and assisting with bedpan/commode.

• Observes and reports changes in patient status to charge RN.

• Uses restraints safely and according to Hospital policy.

• Uses correct body mechanics when lifting, transferring or repositioning a patient.

• Encourages attendance to all unit activities.

• Conducts groups with patients on variety of topics such as anxiety, grief, stress and coping.

• Collects samples, such as urine and sputum, from patients for testing.

• Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.

• Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

• Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.

• Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations and JCAHO standards.

• Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.

• Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

• Or one to three months related experience and/or training.

• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Requirements, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• CNA certificate preferred.

• AA or BA in Psychology preferred.

• BLS certification required upon hire.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before customers, patients, families and employees of the organization.
