Age Specific Responsibility

Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned department.  Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

Summary                                                                                                                                          

The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, performs routine personal care duties for patients. Maintains a safe environment and reports any problems. Supports the Winchester Rehabilitation Center’s and Winchester Medical Center’s mission and vision. Once experienced, may act as a preceptor in the orientation of new CNA's.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities                                                                                         

Performs routine basic patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by Federal and State laws and regulations. Under the direction of an RN/LPN, provides care and treatment appropriate to the age of patients served as detailed and determined through the unit specific Scope of Care, Competency/Skills Checklists, Equipment Skills Matrix and Inservice Training. Receives report and/or makes rounds on each assigned patient with the registered nurse/licensed personnel. Reports observations to the team leaders; i.e., patient complaints, patient behavior or appearance, family complaints. Reports completeness of assigned tasks to the registered nurse at end of shift and, as necessary, otherwise. Provides input into the nursing plan of care. Performs and completes assigned tasks accurately. Assists licensed personnel in the delivery of patient care.

Assists in Maintaining a clean, safe patient and unit environment

Completes unit environmental tasks as assigned. Verbalizes and carries out Disaster and Fire Regulations and procedures. Carries out Universal Precautions. Reports unsafe equipment or practice immediately to appropriate personnel.

Displays initiative an maintains proficiency in patient care procedures

Participates in patient care conferences, staff meetings and nursing committees. Follows documented policy and procedure in the delivery of patient care. Assists other unit members without being asked when own work is complete. Performs task appropriate for the skill level and educational preparation. Attends in-service classes, as assigned.

Demonstrate excellent customer service and standards of behaviors as well as encourages, coaches, and monitors the same in team members. Essential Job Qualifications                                                                                                          

 High school diploma or GED equivalent  Registry on the board of nursing as a Certified Nurse Aide  Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Hearth ’healthcare provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved  New hires must have AHA appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation  Must understand basic principles of human growth and development  Must have a reliable means of phone communication with hospital
