Job Summary:
Highly skilled CNC programmer specializing in creating complex, precise machining programs for advanced 5-axis CNC machines, requiring a deep understanding of complex geometries, intricate tooling, and tight tolerances, to produce high-quality parts from a variety of materials, in demanding nuclear safety, high-precision manufacturing; responsibilities include interpreting detailed engineering drawings, designing efficient machining strategies, selecting optimal cutting tools, and optimizing programs for maximum efficiency while maintaining exceptional quality control.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced CAD/CAM proficiency:
Expertly utilize CAD/CAM software like Mastercam, NX, or SolidWorks to translate complex 3D models into detailed 5-axis machining programs, including intricate surface machining and complex geometries.
Toolpath optimization:
Design efficient cutting paths considering tool selection, feed rates, and machining sequences to minimize machining time while maximizing part accuracy.
Complex geometry interpretation:
Accurately interpret complex engineering drawings, including GD&T annotations, to translate design intent into precise machining operations.
Fixture design:
Collaborate with engineers to design and specify necessary tooling and fixtures to properly hold and locate parts during machining.
Machine simulation and verification:
Utilize CNC machine simulation software to verify program accuracy and identify potential collisions before running on the actual machine.
Troubleshooting and optimization:
Monitor machine operations during production runs, identify and resolve issues related to program errors, tool wear, or machine limitations, and continuously refine programs for improved efficiency.
Quality control:
Conduct thorough quality checks on machined parts using precision measuring instruments to ensure adherence to tight tolerances and specifications.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Extensive 5-axis machining experience:
Proven expertise in programming and operating advanced 5-axis CNC machines, including a deep understanding of rotational axes (A & B) and their applications.
Advanced CNC programming knowledge:
Proficient in G-code and M-code programming, including complex machining cycles like high-speed machining, adaptive control, and simultaneous 5-axis movements.
Strong mechanical aptitude:
Thorough understanding of machining principles, cutting tool selection, material properties, and their impact on machining processes.
Detail-oriented approach:
Ability to work with tight tolerances and maintain high precision throughout the machining process.
Problem-solving skills:
Effectively troubleshoot programming errors and machine malfunctions, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Collaboration skills:
Work effectively with engineers, manufacturing personnel, and quality inspectors to ensure smooth production flow and meet project requirements.
