**Job Title: Lead Set-Up Machinist**
**Job Description**
The Lead Set-Up Machinist is an intermediate-to-advanced level position responsible for setting up and operating machines according to the company’s procedures and instructions. This role ensures that quality, dimensions, and key characteristics are maintained while performing specific job and program specifications. The Lead Set-Up Machinist ensures that machines are well-stocked with needed materials, properly maintained, and performs periodic checks. Daily tasks include spot checks of the finished product to ensure it is defect-free and ready for the next step in production. Additionally, this role involves setting up CNC mills and/or lathes, making necessary adjustments to optimize productivity and efficiency.
**Responsibilities**
+ Follow optimal company operational policies and procedures
+ Maintain the company's quality and safety standards as enforced by the Production Supervisor and Operations Manager
+ Set up and operate machines according to job specifications and shop traveler instructions
+ Edit CNC programs
+ Machine a wide variety of materials
+ Successfully lead a team in a fast-paced, flexible environment running 5+ machines
+ Demonstrate excellent geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and blueprint familiarity coupled with inspection knowledge
+ Lead decision-making for setup, fixturing, machine troubleshooting, and probing
+ Ensure strong collaboration amongst the team to integrate manufacturing capabilities with design objectives
+ Exhibit strong technical judgment and autonomy in managing operations
+ Support the team even without direct oversight from management
+ Actively participate in the vehicle design process, offering strategic manufacturing insights and solutions
+ Program mills and/or lathes by entering instructions, including zeros and reference points
+ Set tool registers, offsets, compensations, and conditional switches
+ Review blueprints to determine dimensions and tolerances of the product
+ Calculate requirements, including basic math, and adjust three and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers
**Essential Skills**
+ 5-10 years of machinist experience
+ 5-10 years of CNC lathe and/or mill experience
+ 5-10 years of CNC programming, set-up, and production experience
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Ability to edit CNC programs
+ Experience machining a wide variety of materials
+ Excellent geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and blueprint familiarity coupled with inspection knowledge
+ Strong technical judgment and autonomy in managing operations
+ Ability to lead a team in a fast-paced and flexible environment
+ Participation in the vehicle design process with strategic manufacturing insights and solutions
