General Notes

This position is fixed term for one year with the possibility for renewal at the end of each term based on availability of funding. It will be responsible for assisting CNS employees with software, hardware, desktop, network, VoIP and services supported by CNS IT. Installs, upgrades and troubleshoots software on desktop computers, both remote and on-site. Candidate is required to utilize existing tools for tracking and system management to provide documentation and troubleshooting to CNS users requesting help.

Purpose

Work independently and as part of a team to help us provide high quality technical support on-site and remotely to the br user base of faculty, staff, and researchers in the College of Natural Sciences during standard business hours. You will help a top research college achieve their mission while growing your career as part of a collaborative network of IT professionals.

Responsibilities

Work with the security team as a subject matter expert for various research onboarding projects.

Provide Network support (IOT, firewalls, and VRF) and network management via tools provided by campus IT.

Respond to requests via phone, email or ticketing system and problems. Install, monitor, diagnose, repair, maintain, and upgrade all user and lab computer and printer hardware, software, and equipment to ensure optimal workstation performance.

Provide support on ad hoc projects and other related duties as well as office deliveries using a University owned vehicle.

Manage the incident ticketing system.

Image and maintain CNS owned computers and monitors issues remotely using CNS Management Tools.

Other related responsibilities and functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Three years of experience in an IT technical support position. Knowledge of computer and peripheral operations, installation, and troubleshooting. Knowledge of directory services and remote access tools. Demonstrated experience providing full support for Apple/Windows hardware and software. Ability to keep up with new technologies that are applicable to the needs of the College. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate via oral and written methods. Experience managing tasks via a ticketing system. Experience supporting non-technical users with technical needs. Three years of customer service experience.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher. Three years' experience in a higher education IT Support setting. Proficient in Apple/Windows products including mobile devices. Familiarity supporting Linux user desktops. Apple certified. Microsoft Windows and Office certified. A+ Certified. Two years of networking experience. Familiarity with University-level desktop security requirements. Knowledge of University environments and available IT resources. Ability to work on multi-project timelines. Certification in ITIL.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$50,000 + depending on qualifications
