How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)
The Co-op, Flight Safety Data Science responsibilities include providing support to the Flight Safety Data and Decision Science Team (DDS) along with the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Air Safety Investigation (ASI), and Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) programs. The data collected through these programs supports Delta's Safety Management System (SMS), which is a cornerstone of Delta's proactive accident and incident prevention system to track, trend and resolve aviation hazards.
This position will include exposure all aspects of the Flight Safety department, in which a successful candidate will be responsible for developing insights, models and solutions utilizing data, such as damage data, injury information, meteorological conditions, crew background, human performance data, and flight recorder data.
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
+ Must be enrolled as a full-time student pursuing an undergraduate degree in a 4-year academic institution
+ At least a 3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale
+ Must be available to work on a full-time basis during 3 alternating semesters: **Summer 2025, Spring 2026 and Fall 2026**
+ Must be able to work onsite in our Atlanta, GA office for the duration of the Co-op
+ This position requires the student to work for 2-3 alternating semesters. Student cannot actively take any courses (inclusive of online or in-person) and work as a Co-op/Intern at the same time, which may delay graduation by 1-2 semesters.
+ Knowledge working with relational databases and query authoring (SQL)
+ Knowledge working with Python, R, and other machine learning platform
+ Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States
+ Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency
+ Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles
+ Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)
+ Preferred degrees in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or Aviation related
+ Project management, organizational, and prioritizations skills
+ Strong written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
+ Highly motivated with the desire to learn and have a passion for safety
