Job Description Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, this position assumes the role of Strength and Conditioning Coach within the program and all duties associated with it. The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for designing, implementing, and supervising comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for athletes across various sports, aiming to optimize athletic performance, prevent injuries, and improve overall physical fitness by utilizing evidence-based training methods, while collaborating closely with head coaches and athletic training staff to achieve specific sport-related goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Red Cross First Aid/C-PRO certified.Must hold at least one of the following certifications:CSCS from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).USA Weightlifting (USAW) level 1 or Sports Performance Coach.
Preferred Qualifications:
B.S. in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Human Performance preferred.
Specific Duties:
DESIGNS TRAINING PROGRAMS: Designs and implements strength and conditioning training plans for athletes and teams during both traditional and non-traditional seasons, including workout schedules and equipment instruction. Creates periodized training plans incorporating strength, power, speed, agility, flexibility, and recovery exercises.Percentage of Time: 23%
COACHING/TEACHING:: Oversees training sessions and motivates athletes. Demonstrates proper lifting techniques, speed, agility, and flexibility training. Provides guidance to athletes during training sessions. Assesses athletes’ performance before and after a program session.Percentage of Time: 22%
ATHLETE MONITORING Tracks progress through regular testing, observing form, and adjusting training plans as needed. Conducts assessments to identify individual athlete strengths and weaknesses, and tailoring training programs based on specific sport demands.Percentage of Time: 22%
COLLABORATION with SPORT COACHES: Facilitates a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, & the strength and conditioning staff. Meets with sport head coaches to align training goals with team strategies and address specific athlete needs. Conducts an annual needs-analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach and the team’s athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season.Percentage of Time: 8%
COLLABORTATION with the ATHLETIC TRAINING STAFF: Coordinates with medical staff regarding athlete injuries and rehabilitation programs.
INJURY PREVENTION: Incorporates exercises designed to address potential injury risks specific to each sport.Percentage of Time: 10%
CLASS CREATION: Designs and instructs curricular wellness and strength and conditioning classes, as needed.Percentage of Time: 5%
DEPARTMENT COLLABORATION/PARTICIPATION: Assists with home events such as, but not limited to: Home games supervision, Senior Blanket Night, Hall of Fame, SCIAC and NCAA Championship event.Percentage of Time: 5%
Abides by and complies with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and SCIAC rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of the University, and all guidelines and policies of the Athletics department and reports any concerns of compromise or violation of rules, standards, guidelines or policies to the Director of Athletics, Deputy Director, or the Compliance & Student Services Manager. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, or a designee assigned by the Director of Athletics.Percentage of Time: 5%
Salary Range
Maximum: $75,000
Minimum: $68,750
