We’re just built to be better. We are a great company. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced **Coatings Inspector** to join our Portland, OR team! Responsible for inspecting and evaluating the quality and durability of coatings on various surfaces, ensuring compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of surface preparation and coatings application techniques, materials, testing methods, coating types, inspection criteria, lab testing, and failure modes for various coatings. Have experience in industrial or construction environments. This position involves oversight of QC processes, inspection activities, and the coordination of quality assurance initiatives on the project site. **Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:** Inspection & Testing: + Review proposed construction plans and documents to determine compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and codes + Conduct comprehensive inspections of surface preparation and coating applications on structures, equipment, and components using visual observation and testing equipment to + Verify that coatings are complaint with specified requirements, including thickness, adhesion, hardness, appearance, porosity, and coverage, as per industry standards (e.g., NACE, SSPC), project specifications, established codes, industry standards, and safety regulations. + Oversee the QC activities related to coatings, including proper environmental conditions for coating applications, such as temperature, humidity, and cleanliness. + Verify the proper use of materials, equipment, and procedures to ensure the quality and integrity of all coatings work. Documentation & Reporting: + Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and any non-conformance issues. + Prepare and submit thorough reports outlining inspection findings, quality control metrics, and corrective actions taken. + Ensure that all documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with project and regulatory requirements. Coordination & Supervision: + Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and clients to address and resolve any issues related to coating quality and safety. + Guide field personnel, providing technical support and training as necessary. + Ensure that all personnel adhere to quality and safety standards, and that all work is performed in accordance with project plans and specifications. Compliance & Safety: + Enforce compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards, ensuring a safe working environment on the project site. + Monitor and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols by all team members. + Identify potential safety hazards and recommend solutions to mitigate risks. + Continuous Improvement: + Participate in the development and implementation of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures. + Provide feedback and recommendations for improving QC processes and procedures. + Stay current with industry trends, advancements in technology, and regulatory changes to continuously improve quality standards. + Performs other related work as assigned. **Minimum requirements:** + Must possess a valid AMPP Certified Coating Inspectors (NACE Level 2) or equivalent certification (e.g., SSPC). + Minimum of 5 years of field coating quality control (QC) experience + Close, color, distance, depth vision, and ability to adjust focus. + Strong knowledge of coating materials, application methods, inspection techniques, industry standards, codes, and regulations + Proficiency in using inspection tools and equipment, such as dry film thickness gauges, adhesion testers, and environmental monitoring devices. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed reports and effectively communicate findings to various stakeholders. + Knowledge of the standard practices, processes, tools, equipment, and materials related coatings. + Work independently with limited supervision. + Good written & verbal communication skills **Other miscellaneous qualities:** + Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record **Compensation:** $45 - $55 hourly The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law.
