Code Enforcement Officer

Sarasota County Government has an excellent opportunity to be a Code Enforcement Officer with our Planning and Development Services Department. In this role you will enforce and investigate Federal, State and County Ordinances including but not limited to; property standards, building code, sound ordinance, news rack, zoning code, solid waste, and making the appropriate referrals to other departments. Apply today and join this amazing team!Investigate, research, enforce and process complaints regarding the above ordinances and codes.Determine legal descriptions and property owners from county records.Maintain complaint records and input data into the computer tracking system.Utilize contractors for abatement of violations.Prepare and testify on cases for hearing before the Special Magistrate.Compile case information for public records requests.Recover illegal signs from the rights-of-way.Participate in cross training sessions with co-workers to address the comprehensive list of codes.Participate in FACE and other internal and external training as required.

Works with citizens, civic associations, and homeowner’s associations to maintain a clean healthful and aesthetically pleasing community:Distributes educational materials.Participates in monthly Community Cleanup Events.Attend Homeowner Association meetings.

Work Hours:

Regular work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Work rotational Saturdays or Sundays, overtime, early morning, late evening inspections, and Saturday Community Clean Up.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

 High School Diploma or its equivalent.Three (3) years of field enforcement experience involving interpreting, documenting, reporting, and/or correcting violations of regulatory codes or ordinances.-OR- An associate degree and one year of of field enforcement experience involving interpreting, documenting, reporting, and/or correcting violations of regulatory codes or ordinances.Valid  Florida Drivers' License is required at time of hire.Must obtain FACE (Florida Association of Code Enforcement) certification (one level) within one year of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

FACE certification.Sound level meter readings and light meter reading experience.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay: $23.33 - $25.50/hour, based on your experience
