We are seeking a domain expert and talented manager for the role of Collection Systems Manager to lead a team of seven who oversee and administer Getty’s suite of collection management applications. This constellation of systems supports museum, library, and archives collection management functions, specialized collection data management (Getty Provenance Index, Getty Vocabularies), and digital asset management. This represents a unique opportunity to oversee the platforms essential for managing and disseminating Getty’s collection and research assets.
The Collection Systems Manager will support Getty Digital’s initiative to modernize workflows, reduce system redundancy, and further harmonize use and practices across our ecosystem to build a consistent, connected, and collaborative digital environment. To achieve this, we are looking for an experienced and inclusive leader to guide the work of a talented and close-knit team of product managers. The candidate will have a strong background in systems-thinking, metadata schema and practice, aligning roadmaps, balancing operational and project work, and a track record as an expert business systems analyst working with cultural heritage applications.
This position reports to the Collection Platforms Director within the Public Technologies unit of Getty Digital. The Collection Systems Manager will interact with colleagues from across Getty’s campus, including engineers, librarians, museum information specialists, archivists, and staff from our communications, publications, and digital teams. Demonstrated experience building collegial and collaborative relationships across teams is essential.

This position is a hybrid work environment opportunity; this is not a fully remote assignment. The successful candidate must be a California resident when employment begins and work at least one day per week on Getty’s campus in Brentwood.
Major Job Responsibilities Leadership: Lead and unify a diverse team. Guide their professional development, set appropriate goals, deliver performance feedback, and align their practices. Create and maintain an inclusive team culture that promotes continuous improvement. Assist the Collection Platforms Director in planning and implementing departmental goals. Work in close partnership with other department managers to coordinate the successful completion of technical projects and improved workflows.Application Management: Oversee the performance, maintenance, and optimization of key systems of record. Ensure seamless operation, user satisfaction, and integration into the larger digital ecosystem. Lead efforts to integrate systems, leverage system features, and enable good data practice and reuse. Build consistent practices and workflows, aligning with practices on other teams across the organization. Serve as a key technical resource and conduit to the expertise of your team.
Vendor Relationships: Manage vendor partnerships, advocate for application enhancements, sponsor open source development projects, negotiate contracts, review statements of work, manage costs, and maintain strong relationships with providers. When needed, help identify new opportunities and work with our portfolio project management office (PPMO) to implement new systems.
Client Management: Work with key stakeholders across Getty to ensure the systems meet existing needs and are prepared for future ambitions. Collaborate on evaluating new opportunities and building workflows that empower organizational and business goals. Champion good change management practice in partnership with Getty programs.
Training and Support: Establish policies and practices for training end users. Direct staff and put in place processes for ongoing support, ensuring effective, sustainable use of our systems. Listen to staff needs and support their day-to-day experience. Help manage and build a foundation for change as we enhance practices.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field or a combination of education and relevant experienceMaster's or advanced degree in domain specific area preferred (e.g. MLIS, Data Science, MIS)8-12 years experience with cultural heritage/digital asset management systems Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Deep knowledge in the operations of museums, libraries, and archives with a thorough understanding of the how systems facilitate this workA proven record of accomplishment of managing teams and building strong culture in a hybrid work environmentDirect experience managing a digital asset management system and a combination of library, museum, or archival systems. Specific experience working with any of the following applications is highly desirable: OpenText Media Management, ArchivesSpace, TMS, AlmaDeep experience in application management and vendor management, with experience negotiating contracts and evaluating systemsComfort in presenting both your own and your team's work, leading discussions and proposing solutions, and communicating to stakeholders and executives Ability and desire to collaborate with stakeholders, developers, project managers, and staff to ensure solutions are implementable and meet business and user needs Deep knowledge of linked open data, data modeling, taxonomy development, and domain-specific metadata schema and authorities (MARC, EAD, Linked.Art, CIDOC-CRM, LCSH, Getty Vocabularies) Works in a healthy and flexible management style that appreciates and adjusts to staff needs and encourages strategic pursuits and sustainable workloads Encourages effective and efficient communication, prioritizes activities, establishes unit policies and procedures, and engenders a collaborative work environment
