Requirements
Reporting to the Rare Books Curator in the Booth Family Center for Special Collections (BFCSC), the Collections Specialist assists in the retrieval, use, and preservation of the department’s rare and unique materials. The position’s four core areas of responsibility are: coordinating access to BFCSC’s collections, overseeing courier delivery and pick up, supporting department research and reference services, and providing administrative support to the BFSC operations. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
Oversee the processes for the retrieval and return of special collections materials located in Booth’s on-campus and off-campus storage spaces.
Assist with stacks management projects such as handling accessions, shelf-reading, location management, and shifting collections.
Assist in the inventory for all of Booth materials for holdings accuracy in the Library’s online catalog and in the department’s ArchivesSpace account.
Offer reference and research support, identifying, locating, retrieving, tracking, and handling materials.
Coordinate the staffing of Booth’s reception desk and reading room.
Assist in the training and supervision of student assigned, and employees who staff the reception desk.
Work Interactions
The Collections Specialist reports to the Rare Books Curator. The Collections Specialist will work with other Booth staff to support the department’s research services, instructional services, and outreach efforts. The position will have direct (in person) and indirect (via email, phone, chat) contact with researchers on a frequent basis. This position represents the BFCSC on Library task forces, committees, and working groups.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program
One year of related library experience in supporting such functions as: locating and retrieving items, shelving books, and updating collection spreadsheets and/or location guides
Strong public service orientation and a familiarity with the role of academic libraries meeting the information needs of students, faculty, staff, and outside researchers
Computer skills, including word processing and data entry. Ability and willingness to learn new software programs and technologies
Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to consistently meet project deadlines and achieve stated objectives
Ability to work independently and to collaborate with others in a dynamic team environment
Proven track record of trustworthiness, reliability, and consistency in following directions, adhering to established policies and regulations
Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace, and an ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population
Preferred Qualifications
Experience overseeing work of student employees
Experience shelving and managing library collections
Project management experience in the management of logistics and directing student workers to complete tasks or projects
Experience working with collection management systems (ArchivesSpace, Alma, and Aeon) for tracking materials, managing requests, documenting use, and ensuring access)

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$19.20 - $28.70Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
