College Intern - Port Construction Services
Port of Seattle
**Some of what you'll be doing:**
As an Intern you will assist Construction Managers (CM’S) with all phases of the design and construction process including planning, design review, contract procurement, and construction project management of small-works construction projects, typically $2m or less in value.
+ Attend project planning meetings to become familiar with project objectives and stakeholders.
+ Assist with coordinating pre-construction meetings with project team including operations staff, construction safety, contractors, design team and other stakeholders.
+ Participate in the review of project design documents and assist in coordinating with internal Port departments to approve documents for construction.
+ Assist with managing, coordinating, and facilitating the day-to-day activities of multiple construction projects ensuring that projects are constructed within the scope of the project, on schedule, and within budget.
+ Escort consultants, contractors, visitors to project sites.
+ Assist with project oversight on construction sites to ensure compliance with construction documents, timely installations according to project schedule, and maintain quality assurance.
+ Assist with Coordination and manage project completion including final inspections, certificate of occupancy, punch list review, and customer acceptance.
**Who you are:**
+ **A student** – You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or a recent graduate (< 1 year ago) in a degreed program such as Construction Management, Project Management, Engineering, or related field.

+ **Technologically Proficient** – You are familiar using the MS Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Project), Adobe, and Bluebeam, and can pick up internal Enterprise Resource Programs quickly.
+ **Construction Knowledge** – You have a basic understanding of the best practices related to construction management best practices and a basic understanding of cost estimating (RS Means), cost control, project scheduling, and project documentation.
+ **Organized and proactive** – You must have the ability to read construction drawings and understand basic drafting principles. You’re adept to listen well, ask questions, follow directions, and work independently for multiple hours at a time.
+ **A communicator** - You possess strong analytical, organizational, time management skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. You’re a natural collaborator knowing that answers often come when discussing issues with fellow colleagues.
**What else you need to know:**
+ **Driver’s License** – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
+ **Work Schedule** – The summer internship work schedule will be Monday – Friday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
+ **Work Environment** – You will generally have a combination of both work indoors, in an office environment, and work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
+ **Limited Duration** – This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than five months.
+ **Safety Requirements** – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
+ **Security Requirements** – As the successful candidate, you will/must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
+ **Washington State Residency Requirement** – Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
