We are looking for a Color Lab Manager to join our Coatings team in Whitehouse, OH.

BASF’s Coatings division is a global expert in the development, production and marketing of innovative and sustainable automotive OEM and refinish coatings, decorative paints as well as applied surface treatments for metal, plastic and glass substrates in a wide range of industries. As a Color Lab Manager, you will be responsible and accountable for meeting target productivity KPIs and safety targets, managing the allocated annual budget in the most sensible and efficient manner, leading and developing the employees in the color lab team and interacting with your peers in the global color community and other relevant functions in the G-ECR organization. You will be responsible for autonomously scaling all necessary functions and infrastructure to meet the capacity targets provided. You will direct the activities of the color development laboratory and the color information group in North America. Additionally, the incumbent coordinates activities at the global color labs to ensure proper rules and procedures for color information and development are being followed in order to optimize global color information.

+ Directing and participating in color matching activities in all G-ECR paint technologies.
+ Coordinating color matching and color information activities with global color development laboratories in Europe and Asia. Supporting the launch and deletion of specific tinting bases used in color development laboratories.
+ Developing and integrating new color matching methods and processes into color development and color information groups in alignment with the Global Color Technology team.
+ Managing and ensuring projects are completed in a timely manner while handling changing priorities.
+ Collaborating with all relevant functions within G-ECR and also with local G-ECO colleagues.
+ Sharing knowledge and expertise on a local and global level, providing analytical support, and contributing to process optimization initiatives.
+ Managing the procurement of color standards and the gathering of color information from OEM suppliers, G-ECO, marketing and other sources, and ensuring proper and timely input into BASF color database.
+ Providing color matches for G-ECO using refinish materials, as requested, for future color stylings, for use on demonstrations vehicles, for styling shows and for use as end-of-line repair. Looking at ways to leverage synergies between the various coatings groups.
+ Directing and providing input into the maintenance and development of color instrumentation for both internal use and for use by customers in order to improve the quality and productivity of refinish color matching.
+ Providing necessary production and technical support in the selection of standards, the selection of pigment, and assistance with dispersions, as required.
+ Providing assistance to the field for account development and to trouble shoot color complaints.
+ Developing and training staff in areas of color development and color information, as well as taking ownership for your personal career development and continuous learning.
+ Managing KPIs for global and local needs as directed by supervisor.
+ Ensuring quality of BASF color database permitting extraction to various electronic media.
**If you...**
+ Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (strongly preferred)
+ Have a minimum of 8 – 10 years’ experience in color development
+ Have extensive experience in color matching, color formulation and base formulation, including experience in pigment dispersion (very desirable)
+ Are thoroughly knowledgeable of automotive pigmentation and up to date on new pigment trends
+ Have experience managing and leading staff, being able to handle constantly changing priorities while still completing projects on time
+ Are eager to drive change and engage in innovation and digitalization projects in color
+ Are knowledgeable of the refinish business from both the technical and business side
+ Are able to deal effectively with vendors as well as dealing with customer inquiries
+ Need to be able to trouble-shoot both internal and external problems
